Network difficulty.
A little insight please...Maybe some of you guys can help me out here. I did not have a problem setting up a network (file sharing between computers) with my other router, but this DLINK DIR655 has me baffled. The router and cable modem is running off the main PC which uses Vista. Now i have two other PC/s running XP. On my main PC i can see the 2 other PC's in the network and can access the files shared. Now what i want to do is for the other 2 PC's to be able to see and access my shared files on my main pc running vista. For the life of me i cannot get it to work. None of the PC's seem to be picking up my main PC's files. Its weird tho because my main PC can pick up the other PC's files and such. The one running vista/the main one isPrivate network. Network Discovery, File Sharing, Public Folder Sharing, Printer Sharing, and Media Sharing are all ON.Now if i go on my laptop and try to access the network.. alls i see is.. the shared docs on my laptop, and also an icon for my router. If i click on the icon for my router it just takes me to the router log in screen.-Also if i open up Network Places and try to View workgroup computers, the laptop comes up with an error saying. "network name" is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network reource. The network path was not found.I can also on the pc's running XP go into network and go to workgroup and the one with windows vista will show up. If i click on it to access its shared files i get an error.... You may not have permission to use this network resource.. The network path was not found.Anybody have any idea? Ill be in this a few min so if you have any questions or didnt understand anything i said..

You havent mentioned if you have Password Protected sharingturned on, so Ill assume you want to share without using passwords! First of all, go to Control Panel > Classic View > Network and Sharing Center and make sure you have Network Discovery, File Sharing and Public Folder Sharing all set to On and Password Protected Sharing to Off. If you want to use passwords, you have to set up identical usernames and passwords on all computers in your network. To share a Vista folder, click it > Share on the Toolbar > Advanced Sharing, click Share this folder > Apply > OK, etc. Two little people should appear on the icons of the folders that are shared. An alternative way of sharing is to drag the folders you want to share to the Public folder. As you dont have Password Protected Sharing turned on, you have to change the security permissions on your folder(s) to allow Everyone access. Right-click the shared folder > Properties > Security Tab > Edit > Add and type Everyone (not the quotes) into the box and OK. Tick the boxes next to the permissions you want to allow (e.g. Read or Write, etc.) then Apply > OK, etc. You may see some screens coming up with message 'An error occurred while applying ..'. This is not unusual and can be ignored by clicking Continue. As you are sharing with an XP machine, you may need to install the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) responder on the XP machine so that the computer shows up in Vistas network map, get it here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4F01A31D-EE46-481E-BA11-37F485FA34EA&displaylang=en
