Network connectivity problems with XP Pro SP3 and Win 7 x64
I have three computers on a home network via router connection. Box 1 is running XP Home. Box 2 is running XP Pro SP3 and the box I am using is (my main box #3) running Win 7 Pro x64 . In Nortons 360 all the boxes show up . The Win 7 system does not show up in local area network at all on first two machines. The antivirus software shows them as being shared and protected. Win 7 on the other hand shows all three machines show up in Computer (win 7) and will let me connect and let me receive files from the XP Home machine(box 1). You cannot connect at all to the XP Pro box from either 1 or 3. When I try to connect to box 2 from my main box I get this message "box2\ is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command." Any ideas as to why the XP Pro box cannot be accessed? As I said it has all the file sharing preferences enabled. The firewall isn't causing it and the antivirus isnt causing it. I've disabled both to rule it out. I can use the file transfer utility just fine between machines 2-3 but that doesnt help me gain the type of access I need to my backup drives that are on 2 machine (xp pro). This has to be something simple that I am overlooking (I hope) Any help is greatly appreciated!1 person got this answerI do too

Follow the steps in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article Antivirus Software May Cause Event ID 2011 on the XP Pro box. That should allow the other computers to access it.Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

Im not capable of doing the registry edit, but I was able to check the event logs and found no Event ID 2011. 4634 and 4624 are the only events I can see on this Win 7 box when I tried to access the Xp Pro box again. I can remove the Nortons software and do a clean install. Would that work?

The problem described in the KB article doesn't always cause Event ID 2011. The steps in that article should fix the problem even without that Event ID. I'm sorry, but I don't know whether removing and re-installing Norton will fix the problem. Try it and see! Test the network after un-installing, and again after re-installing.Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

Steve, Many thanks for the tip. I had to go to the optometrist and get my glasses repaired. Thats why I couldn't do the reg edit :-). Anyway, all is well and the whole network is up and running fine. Many thanks again to you! I was just a bit apprehensive about changing the registry without knowing my vision wasn't 100%. Gary
