Network connection lost in Vista SP1 32bit.
Hey guys, I am having a problem with network connection. I haven't messed around with my network / services, and my computer is cleaned (scanned before posting). So I went to go onto the internet around 5 PM today, and it came up cannot connect to the internet with both Firefox and Internet Explorer. I restarted my laptop and it took around 3 minutes to start up, compared to the 1 minute that it usually takes. I noticed that my network connection was saying it wasn't connected. Upon hovering over it I see this message: "Connection status: unknown The dependency service or group failed to start." I have done the following: sfc /scannow (resulted in "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations") Reinstalled my network drivers. Upon going into the services.msc program, I see three services with the status of "starting" the three services are: "DHCP Client, Net Driver HPZ12, System Event Notification Service" I can't stop, start or resume those services, it's blanked out. My computer has been a slower than usual, and I had to hard-shutdown it because it froze while opening Task Manager. The only thing I've installed today was: SmartDefrag (I've already removed, and it seemed to have gotten a bit faster), Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 (yes the original). Please, if anybody has ANY idea please help me out! Thank you very much!

Hi, Thank you for posting. If everything worked before, a quick solution is to restore the system back to the previous status when the issue didnt occur with System Restore. (Note: Performing a system restore may cause the loss of the current system settings; therefore, before doing this, please make sure that the system restore point is not too old and set a restore point for the current status.) If System Restore doesnt help, please try the following to narrow down the issue: 1. If you have recently installed any software, hardware or drivers, please remove them. 2. Please go to Device Manager and check if the network exists and there is no exclamation mark on it. 3. Please completely remove the NIC driver and upgrade it to the latest version. 4. Boot the system to Safe Mode with networking to see if it works. 5. I know that the computer freezes when starting Task Manager. Please try Process Explorer and see if there are any abnormal processes. Process Explorer http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx Meanwhile, if there is another computer on the network, please check if its connection works. If the issue persists, please collect the following information for our further research: 1. Run ipconfig /all to export all the network settings and post the information to this thread. 2. Please capture a screenshot on the error "Connection status: unknown The dependency service or group failed to start. Capture a screenshot ============== 1) Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard. 2) Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter. 3) In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save". 4) The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot". 5) Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click Desktop on the left pane and then click "Save". Please use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the file and share the URL with us. Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT
