Network can't find printer
I have a laptop running Windows XP/Pro/SP3 and accessing the internet via a wireless network (Linksys WRT54G Router). I connected an HP6310 All-in-one Multifunction printer to the router, using an ethernet cable, and then installed the HP6310 software on the laptop. Using the Windows "Add a Printer Wizard", I selected "Network Printer" and then receive three options: (1) Browse - this doesn't find the printer (2) Connect to this printer - Name:______ Example:\\Server\printer - I probablydidn't create the correct pathname and it didn't find the printer. (3) Connect to a printer on the internet or on a home or office network. I don't think this optio applies, but tried it and couldn't find the printer. The HP manual did suggest that the problem may be a mismatch of printer and router gateways; I don't know what this means and how to correct the problem if this is the causeCan you offer any suggestions?1 person needs an answerI do too

Did you try that before you used the "Add Printer Wizard"? What happened?Follow the directions starting at p. 29 of your manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00633922.pdfIt's unlikely that there's any "mismatch of printer and router gateways," but if you want to check, here's how:First print out your printer's network configuration page.a. Press Setup.b. Press 8 to select Network Setup.c. Press 1.This selects Print Network Settings and then prints the networkconfiguration page. Now go to the computer and do the following:1. Click Start, then type the three letters cmd into the Run box and click OK.2. Type this command and press Enter: ipconfig /all > "%UserProfile%\Desktop\ip.txt" {Enter}3. Open the file IP.txt on your desktopWhen you open IP.txt, you will see something like the following:Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100 Network Connection Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-07-E9-ED-0C-47 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1The gateway shown in the printer's network configuration page (if there is one) should be identical to the "Default Gateway" in IP.txt (192.168.1.1 in the example above). The IP address shown in the printer's network configuration page should have the same first 3 sets of numbers as the "IP Address in IP.txt (192.168.1.100 in the example above). That is, using the example above, your printer's IP address should be 192.168.1.xxx, where xxx can be anything other than 1 or IP address of your computer. The Subnet Mask shown in the printer's network configuration page should be identical to the subnet mask in IP.txt (255.255.255.0 in the example above).
