Network backups fail?
Hi everyone,I was delighted to see Windows 7's "Backup & Restore" functionality include an option to back up over a network. However, I've had a hard time getting it to work. It'll run for hours (as expected; 90gigs of data to back up) only to come back in the end and say it can't write to the destination volume. However, connecting to the same share (with the same credentials) in Windows Explorer proves that I can create and delete files and folders to my heart's content.I guess it's worth noting that the remote file server is not a Windows machine, but a Mac -- so it uses Samba to provide the share. However, I've never had trouble using it as a regular file server, and I'm unsure what "special functionality" if any the backup function looks for.Any suggestions?

Did you try the UNC path? If so assign a driveletter to it and try that.

I tried it both ways. Windows 7 does write some files to the destination (so it's obviously finding it), just later claims it doesn't have permission to write.

I'm having the same issue from multiple Win 7 machines to a Qnap NAS unit :(

I am having the same issue: Win 7 explorer can 'see' , read and write to all network shares; but backup will not work; and says there is a permission issue. "permission issues' seem to be a pan-system trouble maker in this release of windows and not easily fixed.
