Network adapters missing from Manage network adapters, but internet is working
Hello, i would like to ask you for help. I have been struggling with missing network adapters in manage network adapters. I've installed some programm called Connectify (www.connectify.me) and somehow it has hidden my adapters. Although I can see the adapters in Device manager and I CAN connect to the internet. I have also a RED X at the traybar. I have tried reinstalling ethernet and also wifi drivers, uninstalling and then reinstalling and so on. I have also asked the manufacturer of Connectify, but no reply. Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate My computer: Dell Inspiron 6400 Wifi: Wireless minicard Dell 1390 WLAN Ethernet: Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller I am attaching some screenshot. I hope somebody of you have ever seen this problem, because i have found only one working solution at the google and it has been reinstalling windows 7 :-)) James

If you require more information I am ready to provide them. I am just not sure which ones are useful. I remembered a while ago that I had been playing around with network bridges which I had been unable to delete. I followed some tutorials which led into the regedit. I might screwed something there up. Is there any way how to SHOW UP network adapter icons again? Look forward to your answer James

Hi, Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Please try the following method to see how it works: After you wake a Windows Vista-based computer or a Windows 7-based computer from sleep or from hibernation, the network icon and the speaker icon in the notification area do not show the correct status 2. Reset the permission ============= Note: Please perform a full system backup first. 1) Please download the subinacl.msi file from the following link and save the installation patch on the Desktop: SubInACL (SubInACL.exe) 2) Please go to the Desktop and double click the downloaded file. 3) Please select the C:\Windows\System32 folder as the Destination Folder during the installation. Later we will use this tool to reset the permission settings on the current machine. Note: If UAC (User Account Control) window is prompted for permission to continue, please click "Continue". 4) Click "Start". In the Start Search bar, type: "notepad" (without quotes)and press Enter. 5) Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Note padwindow: @echo off subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\*.* /grant=administrators=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\*.* /grant=system=f @Echo ========================= @Echo Finished. @Echo ========================= @pause 6) After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose Save when you are prompted to save the file. Type "reset.bat" as the file name and choose Desktop from the left panel as the save location. 7) Refer to the Desktop and right click the reset.bat file, then choose "Run as administrator." 8) You will see a DOS-like window processing. NOTE: It may take several minutes. When it is finished, you will be prompted with the message: "Finished, press any key to continue". 3. Run the following command in an elevated command prompt to restore the security settings: secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose How do I restore security settings to the default settings? Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

Hello Nicholas ! Firstly i want to thank you for your reply and efford! Now to the problem: 1. It doesn't work. 2. I've downloaded the application, installed and actually have done everything as you suggested. Unfortunatelly it hasn't worked. I have couple of screenshots from the proccess, showing for example that during the first phase (setting permitions in HKEY_Local_machine) there were a lot of failures (for example Done: 117602, Modified 87500, failed: 30102). I've run this twice - with and without restart. The result is the same. 3. Here, after running cmd as an administrator and entering the command, it outputs a log file with some errors (I would attach it if it wasn't in Czech :) ). There are plenty (maybe 1000) of messages: "Upozornn 5 - Pstup odepen", which I guess in English means: Alert number 5 - Access denied. Maybe there may be a problem with the network bridges. I was playing around with them (trying to enable wifi internet connection for my cellphone) maybe a month ago. Unfortunatelly I couldn't delete them. I googled the problem and tryied almost every possilbe tutorial - which means I might screwed up my regedit. Since then I can't see those network adapters. I hope there is an ace in the hole :) Thank you, James

Hi, Thank you for your update. As you met some errors when performing the steps, I would like to confirm that the account you are using has administrator privilege; or you can enable the built-in Administrator account and then try again. Enable the built-in Administrator account ========================= 1. Click the Start button, All Programs and Accessories. 2. Right click Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator". 3. Click Continue when the User Account Control window appears. 4. Type the following command and press Enter: net user administrator /active:yes you can disable built-in Administrator with: net user administrator /active:no If the issue persists, please also check the following: 1. Have you installed any network management software? 2. There are some other connections in Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections besides the 2 physical ones. Hope this helps. Thanks. Hello Nicholas, thank you for the answer. I am sorry it took me so long to answer, I had a lot of studying to catch up. To your first idea: I have tryied it and the result is the same. I am posting a screenshot which says everything: (the first has been taken from accound ADMINISTRATOR, the second one has been taken from my normal account) For your second question: I have installed Conectify (http://connectify.me/) - it creates network bridges so as to allow ad-hoc an internet connection. It should have been an easy way to estabilish a connection between my i8910 and notebook. I try time to time newer version, hoping it will restore my problem. And to the question 2.b: As an Administrator I can see there only one: Bluetooth. As my normal account I can see there two (bluetooth and standard modem via bluetooth[OTA]) Thank you for your efford! And merry Christmas and happy New year! James

Hi James, Thank you for clarifying this issue. I really appreciate your efforts. Have you tried to remove the software and see how it works? Considering Connectify is suspected in this issue and we have limited information about how it is designed and how it works, it is recommended that you contact Connectify support for further investigation. Has anyone ever found a working solution for this problem ? Im facing the same issue after an update of NOD Smart Security. De-installing the software and cleaning up the registry did not help at all. Both connectors (ethernet LAN and WiFi) just disappeared. Can not even find them in device manager.

I have the same problem all of a sudden without installing anything new on my computer. I have Windows 7 for aboult 6 months. Just 2 weeks ago I have noticed that the Network Icon from the systray is displayed as I have no conectivity (it has a red cross). That was strange since I was browsing the Internet, I had conectivity on both LAN (ethernet) and wireless (WLAN). I have also noticed that the network adapters are not displayed anymore in Netwoerk and Sharing Center, but the devices are displayed ok under Device Manager. Does anyone have a decent solution to this? Thank you.

I have the same problem now. I am on a fairly recent install of Windows 7 (reinstalled from scratch a few days ago). Pretty much all patches applied, up to (but not yet including) SP1. The problem occured following an installation of the latest drivers from Netgear for the WN511T wireless card. I have since tried rebooting, uninstalling / reinstalling / uninstalling those drivers, removing the card, rebooting again, etc. Nothing seems to help - my internet connection is fine, but the adapters are not visible and the connection is not visible. Thanks.
