I am having the same problem as the person with inability to activate network thru routerwhile the same system, while on XP worked perfectly and the laptop on the same router works perfectly. Win 7 says I have a broken cable. That has been replaced. Next step replace the controller. I can add the following:64 bit processor requires 2 gig memory; I had only 1 under xp. I think that means I effectively hadonly a32 bit system. I added 2 more for total 3 and immed. ran win 7 install. Was I converting with a 32 bit driver?

Was I converting with a 32 bit driver? 64bit CPU doesn't require x amount of RAM. You can have a 64bit OS with 1GB RAM. It just won't work as well as it should.
