Network Printer Sharing Problem with Vista
Hi, I am using IBM Notebook with Vista Enterprise Edition. I have a workgroupnetwork with WinXp & Win200 clients. My network laser printer is connected to WIN2K and shared. I can connect to this printer from other WinXp & WIN2K Clients but when I try to connect it from Vista I getthis error message. " Windows cannot connect to the printer. There is not enough memory to compete this operation. Please closesome program and try again". Then I downloaded vista drivers for the network printer and Installed as local printer on my Vista notebook and created a new port pointing to the network printer. But when I enter the network path as \\computername\printersharename in new port entry, I get following error: "Access Denied" But I can access all its Files and also see the printer in the Network and Sharing Centre. I have downloade all the updates for Vista, but still the problem persists. Can somebody help me in trubleshooting this problem.

I had the same issue, try installing the printer using TCP/IP. All you need is the configuration page of the printer, look for the IP address and creat a new port for the printerselect TCP/IP and input the IP address, it should find the printer, and install the drivers for the printer. If youy need more help, write back!

Hi Mr Cota, Thank you very much for your prompt reply and support. Please note, the Network printer is connected toWin2K LPT port and is shared. The steps you have told would help me in installing a priner connected via RJ45 connection. But still I tried doing as told by you, but no luck. It installed the printer, but I was not able to print. I have read in other Forums for this problem, wherein they tell to create a Local Port and enter the network path as "\\computername or IP\printer share name". This has been successful for most of the users, but in my case, even running the process as Adminstrator, I get "access denied" error. The situation is getting worse day by day because I cannot use the printer and I am thinking of reverting back to Windows XP. Regards Vishu

Hello Vishu, Access Denied issues related to networking printing from Windows Vista to Windows XP/2000 are generally driver related, in other words, the driver may be not UAC-compliant and incorrectly check and judge your privilege though it may be enough. A warm-hearted customer has shared a method to solve this kind of issues, I hope you can give it a try: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2817449&SiteID=17 Let us know the result if possible and I really hope you havent downgraded your system. Cheers, Lionel
