Network Map error after hibernation
When restarting after hibernation, the Network Map shows a large "Question Mark" in the path of my computer to the rest of the home network and if I hover the mouseover my computer name, it only show the MAC address. The network interface seems tofunction normally. If I disable the NIC adapter and reenable, it returns to normal.I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM, however this occured with Windows 7Ultimate x64 RC as well.My mother board is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P (onboard Realtek Adapter).Edit: I also noticed that if no other computers are on the network, then no map is drawn. It says no computers or devices can be found (something like that).

I have discovered that if I set the network adapter to "not allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", the issue with the network map does not occur.

Hi, I am glad that you have found the root cause of the issue. As NIC turned off due to power saving, the Network Map will not function. Here, I would like to provide some thing more about Network Map for your reference.Generally, the Network Map graphically displays the computers and other network devices that are present on your network. Actually, the Network Map uses discovery protocols, such as Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) and the Function Discovery service in Windows to determine the devices that are attached to the network, and how they are interconnected. Therefore, if no othercomputers are available on network, we cannot generate a network graph through LLTD as no one interactive with this computer at that moment. The LLTD protocols and components allow one computer, with the collaboration of other computers on the network, to discover the link layer topology of the network and the devices that interconnect them. For more information, you may refer to the following technet article:Network Maphttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725743(WS.10).aspxLet me know if you have any further questions. Having the same problem here (winver W7 ultimate 64b 6.1 build 7600). Only disable power off nic card doesn't help. Symtoms:After a wireless connection lost or resuming from hibernation and Standby my folders on my networkmapping (w2k3) are not available (grey crosses on the folder map icon). After a minute the folders come up again and a minute later down again and so on and on. Problem is solved after rebooting W7 or my server.Tried:With LAN connection: I've looked at the folders while keeping a continieus ping to the server (ping server -t) and noticed that i have a continues connection to the server while the same time the folders of my networkmap a having a grey cross. After a minute the folders come up again and a minute later down again and so on and on.With WLan same as with LANRegenerate the problem with XP => No problemsDisable and enable Nic\wnic doesn't have any effect. So I don't think this is a NIC / WNIC problem. I think its a w7 issue with astablishing a stable network mapping again after a connection loss (witch happens with wireless or hibernation and standby).RegardsGdeKogel
