Network List Service
When I attempt to Start the Network List Service I get: "Error 1079: The ccount specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services runnin in the same process." However, I do not know exactly what other services/utilities/programs depend from the Network List Service. Nor do I know from what service does Nerwork List Service depends of. How do I go about to correct this problem?I notice this problem when I saw a red-crossover the little icon of my desktop tray bar. Any suggestion or assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, thanks for the post. I'd like to inform you that this error can be caused by several factors including dependent service is not running, permission issue or corrupted system files. Let's first try the following steps to troubleshoot it: Add the Local Service account to Administrators group =================================== 1. Click Start, type control userpasswords2 into Start Search box and press Enter. 2. Highlight the current user account we are using and click properties. 3. Click Group Membership tab. 4. Point Administrator and click OK. Verify Network List Service again ========================== 1. Click the Start Button, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. (Click "Continue" if User Account Control prompts for permission) 2. Double click the service " Network List Service ". 3. Click on the Log On tab, please ensure the option "Local System account" is selected and the option "Allow service to interact with desktop" is unchecked. 4. Check if this service has been enabled on the listed Hardware Profile. If not, please click the Enable button to enable it. 5. Click on the "General" tab; make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic" or "Manual". 6. Make sure the "Service Type" is "Started". If not, click the "Start" button to start the service. You can also temporarily stop these services, restart the computer, and then start these services again. If one of the two services is missing, please let me know. Hope this helps!Sean Zhu - MSFT

Hi! Thanks for posting a possible solution to the identified problem. However, the suggested solution was not able to fix the problem. I am still prompted with the window error mentioned before ("Windows could not start the Network Service List" Error 1079: The ccount specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services runnin in the same process.). Every time I attempt to click 'Start', the error windows pops up. Also, I've notice that on the General Tab of the Network Service List, at the top there's a highlighted 'Service Name' with the abbreviations 'netprofm'. But those abbreviations are not consistant with the 'Display Name' description of 'Network Service List'. In any event, I can't either start this service manually nor automatically without the error window prompting.

Thanks for the update. For the current situation, I suggest we perform a system repair and see if the service can be started: 1. Insert the windows Vista DVD and reboot the system. 2. Press the space bar when Press any key to boot to CD or DVD appears 3. When the system comes to the option to install windows, there are two links at the bottom; choose the option Repair your computer 4. The system will locate the Windows Vista installation and show you drive it is located on. If it is not showing, and you have a non-standard SCSI or RAID controller, you will need to load the drivers for it to show. Once it is there, highlight it and click Next. 5. On the menu that appears, click Startup repair. The window will state that it is checking for problems, and prompt you to continue when it finds one to correct. Once it is done, it will prompt you to click finish to reboot. Remove the DVD from the drive and click Finish. Then, let's see if the service can be started.Sean Zhu - MSFT
