Network Icon - No Internet Access
Hi Everyone, On our Windows 7 SOE, Windows is reporting that the network connection has no internet connection when users login. Once you open Internet Explorer, it then changes to saying it does have internet access and they can access the internet fine. There is no actual issues in getting to the internet, just that some people may notice the warning symbol and get alarmed. I am thinking it may have something with not being able to get to the internet until it contacts our proxy server (Clearwswift web appliance). Any ideas? I am hoping there is a fix without launching IE on startup or running a script that simulates the PC access the internet.

You can hide the network icon.

Thanks Defcon. I am aware of the Group Policy to do this however we would like to leave the icon there as it serves other purposes. Anyone other suggestions anyone?

Since the warning goes away once a connection is established you could try pinging an Internet site as part of the login process. In fact, just pinging the proxy address might work too.

Hi, I would like to suggest you change the following settings in Group Policy Editor to check the result: 1. Expend Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings. 2. Double click Network list manager policies and Unidentified networks. 3. Select the option to consider the Unidentified networks as private and if user can change the location. Does it work? Regards,Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I have tried pinging an external address, this does not work. It can't get out until I have authenticated against the proxy. I have tried pinging our proxy, it responds but does not fix the issue. I have tried changing the unidentified network option without any success. It is correctly defecting our network and can access all internal resources, I still just get the yellow warning symbol saying no internet access. One work around I have found (Although not what I am after) is enabling a web gadget (Eg Weather) and this fixes the issue cause it goes out through the web and authenticates against our proxy. Obviously if a user was to turn this off the issue would appear again. Any other ideas?
