Network Drives appear not to connect properly
Hey Guys,I'm running Vista Business with SP1 on a Server 2003 network and whenever i hibernate my laptop and wake it up the network drives that have been mapped by the logon script appear to be offline, ie, have a red "X" and red pipe. However when i double click on them they are actually mapped correctly.A program that i use that has to refer to things on different network drives doesn't appear to be finding these drives correctly as it thinks they are offline.I have found the following KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938062 that describes the issues I am having. I have downloaded the hotfix related to that KB, but when i go to install it i get the message "The update does not apply to your system". I think that this hotfix is exactly what I am after, any ideas how i can rectify this issue? Thanks in advance.

Hi Damian, If the hotfix was installed before, you cannot install it again. Additionally, this hotfix is included in Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). If the system version is already SP1, this hotfix has been applied and you cannot install it again. Microsoft has an article to explain the map drive issue and help us to resolve it. Mapped Drive Connection to Network Share May Be Lost http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297684 Please access the above website. Is the issue resolved? If it persists, please disable the firewalls on the Windows Vista computer and the server computer. Then check if the issue still occurs. Hope it helps.

Hey Arthur,I couldn't see the relevant registry keys in the registry so I didn't want to mess around with it.I have disabled Windows Firewall and it looks like it may have rectified the issue, I will keep my eye on it and will contact you if i require further assistance. Also, thanks for checking back. Many thanks,DamianEDIT: An Update:It appears that the icons have a red x in it if my network cable is unplugged when i wake up or startup the computer. However when I plug the network cable in, the red x remains until i access the drive. Is there a way Vista can tell that as soon as i plug my ethernet cable in these drives are active? It's not a major drama for me to make sure the ethernet cable is plugged in, but i'm not the only one with the issue and less techno-savy people may forget to do it everytime they boot up/wake up their laptops.Cheers,Damian

Hi Damian, Although the status is connected when you plugging the cable, you need to refresh the Windows Explorer window. When you access the mapped drive, and back to the Computer window, it is refreshed. If you do not access the driver, but only right-click and choose Refresh, the red X would also disappear.

Disable the anti-virus and firewall on server and Windows Vista computers. Please let me know if the issue still occurs.
