Network Drive Disconnection Problem - Windows 7
Using Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I have a Seagate USB external hard drive connected to my Asus RT-N56U router as a network drive. I have that drive mapped as the A drive on my pc. Frequently the network drive will go offline seemingly for no reason, always in the middle of data transfer to or from that drive. It will work fine for a period of time and then I'll get an error message saying the drive is no longer connected. In Explorer the mapped drive disappears. When I type "\\DRIVE NAME" in the start menu I get an error message saying that windows cannot connect to the drive. If I reset the router everything will work fine again. Oddly, when I view the network in Explorer the drive appears under media devices, but I am only able to play media off of it via Windows Media Player. Also, after this occurs when I type "192.168.1.1" into my browser to check settings it won't load anything. This problem happens even when windows firewall and antivirus software are disabled. Even though it doesn't seem to happen at regular time intervals and always happens during data transfer, I tried to check the network idle session disconnect time to see if that had anything to do with it. When I type "net config server" in the command prompt I get a message stating "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied." I've looked extensively for information on this problem and have found nothing that seems to help. Sometimes it works wonderfully for a long time, but then it just stops. I don't think it's the drive itself because when I plug it directly into my pc i don't have any issues.

Hi, Obviously, this should be caused by the router. Maybe its cache too small to perform the big data transference. Please try to update its firmware or the driver of NIC to latest version. Hope this helps. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
