Network Drive
I have a problem accessing my network drive under vista ultimate. I do "map network drive"... add my drive adress : \\192.168.1.108\PUBLIC\it all works fine, windows detects the drive and everything is ok, but then, I try to access the drive and my files on it and it keep crashing all the times. Itsays "not responding" and then I have to close explorer.exe 'cause its frozen. It does the same with my 2 pcs under vista. Will this be fixed with vista SP1 ? Am I the only one that cannot access is network drive? Is it because of the filesystem (FAT32) ? Do you have a solution ? Please help me out! MaKz

Was this ever resolved? I have the same problem. XP access to the FAT32 network drive is fine. Vista access is as described. I can map to it, sometimes I can even see the directory but as soon as I try access any files / folders it crashes.

I can add another one to the bunch. I have a home premium that when trying to run a program off of a mapped drive the PC becomes un-usable till explorer crashes. It's not a fat32 issue because I'm connecting to ntfs. I have an odd feeling that I will have to fix this'feature' by going back to XP also. One step forward two steps back

I have the same problem too. I can hardly browse the network drive, and when I try to view a file, it either takes ages, or explorer locks up ("Not responding") Opening a folder with 20 files took maybe15 seconds, opening a 2 kb file took another 10+ seconds. Opening a 5 MB file made explorer lock up. One hour later, explorer still was "Not responding". The files are on a Windows 2003 server with NTFS filesystem. The disks are 15000 RPM SCSI drives in RAID, and we have gigabit network, so we shouldn't have any bottlenecks there. And of course, everything runs smooth in Windows 2000, Windows XP andWindows 2003 server.

Just a follow up from my previous post. My network drive allows me to ftp onto it. This works absolutely fine. I can FTP via windows explorer to copy files to and from the drive. Its not ideal obviously, I cannot access these files directly, I have to copy the files off onto my machine to view them, however it does allow me to use the drive again purely for storage. Dave

Well, this was specific to the Vista Home Premium machine I was working on and the fix goes back to Win98. Add client for Microsoft networks. Click on Start. Right click on network and click on properties. Click on Manage network connections. Right click on the network card you are using and click properties. Click install and then add. You should have an option for client for microsoft networks. Add it and OK out of everything. Worked perfectly for me after that.
