If I put PC into hybernate or allow it to go into sleep mode then I lose my internet connection (via a router RJ45 connection BB 2MB). I get a message to say no connection available, when I run the troubleshooter it says that there is a problem with the IP address. It suggests I try to fix it as administrator, which I do. This fails every time I try. So I nhave to re-boot. I have tried changing the lan driver from the default one that loaded at installation, to the updated one via Windows Update and also the specific Vista one. The LAN is a Realtek one that is onboard my Gigabyte MB. I have feedback these details, just thought I'd add a comment on it here.

I don't know how to fix your problem, but every computer I have ever used has killed the network connection any time it is being put to sleep or hibernating.

Do you mean just with Windows 7, or with every OS? Because although I have had this problem before it has always been fixable via updating to the correct LAN driver. So I am assuming that the problem with Windows 7 is a driver issue. I would suggest if you have had this problem on other OS's try updating your driver.Mike

I had the same problem and fixed it in the Device Manager where you uncheck allow computer to turn off/put to sleep the Network connection.

I've experienced this as well. My laptop has a software toggle switch that enables/disables the wireless network adapter though, and has an indicator light. What I noticed when going to standby in Windows 7 vs Windows Vista, it does not appear to disable the adapter prior to entering standby. In Vista, I can see the light indicate it's been disabled as it's preparing for going into standby. On Windows 7 it just goes straight there and I see no such notification. After I come back from standby, the light indicates that it's disabled, and the software toggle will not re-enable it, so I have to reboot.

Yes I have had this same thing happen with W7 RC. I'm running it in VirtualBox on my XP SP3 system. After the install ( from .iso ) everything seemed to work good but after the system went to sleep it would not renew the IP addy. My internet connection is done through a netgear wirelessN router ( wnr3500 ) and a ADSL router/modem ( zyxel EQ-660R ). I trieddisabling the virtualbox nic and using the XP os, no luck. I tested the internet connection through the router using a wireless notebook and it all worked so the issue is with W7. I thentried to use a direct connection from the PC to the modem,bypassing the router,via ethernet and it still would not renew the IP addy so I shutdown the VM running W7 and did a system restart. This seemed to fix the IP addy problem. I'm sure it has not fixed the actual problem in W7 though, just repaired the connection.I dunno if disabling the" turn of this device..." setting for the VMnic has any effect on this problem or not. I have not retested it. The power save setting is disabled on the real nic.The nic is an onboardrealtek gigabit nicthat is part ofan old P4 MSINeo2 P platinum board i'm running right now. As far as I know all drivers are up to date. If someone is really interested I can give more system specific info.

That works, but we SHOULD NOT have to go into the device manager to do that. I like 7 but I may just stay with Vista SP2 unless all these kinks are worked out

I have found that the problem is now fixed on RC1. So well done MIcrosoft on that one. In fact I'm sending this on my laptop running W7 RC1 and I have repeatedly hibernated it for the past week or so with no probs.I did find it a problem on an earlier release of Vista, so perhaps it's just a common MS problem with new OS'sMike

My girlfriend and I just bought two identical dell laptops, one drops the internet connection during sleep mode, and the other one is constantly connected even when the computer goes to sleep and comes back. THis is very frustrating.
