Network Access - Two Win7 machines
I have been sharing XP and Vista machines for some time. Purchased a new Win7 (Home version)machine and converted from Vista to Win7 Pro on my laptop. Suddently I am gettng the following error when trying to access drives I have shared (per usual steps):Windows cannot access {\\resouces location\resource name}You do not have permission to access {resource}. Contact your Network Administrator to request access.I have no diea what this means. I have shared the resources per the ususal method (right-click the resource and made the changes in the "Sharing" area) and I can see and access other folders in the Homegroup area, so the Homegroup section seems to eb set-up properly. How canI share other folders with both machines?MagicKen

Other than ensuring the share folder is enable, make sure there's no third party firewall like ZA etc, lastly try mapping the share drive or folder using IP instead of it's resource name

Hi, Here are some suggestions you can try: 1. Modify relevant settings on Windows 7 machine. a. Click Start and open Control Panel. b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings". c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options: "Turn on Network Discovery", "Turn on file and printer sharing", "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders", "Turn off password protected sharing" 2. Temporarily turn off firewall and antivirus program on each machine For more information, please refer to the link below: File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista If issue still occurs, please perform following steps to capture a log file. Collect the Netmon trace ========================= a. Download NetMon3.3 from the following website and install it on the computer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=983b941d-06cb-4658-b7f6-3088333d062f b. Launch NetMon3.3. c. In the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 window, click Create a new capture tab d. In the new tab, select all the Network Adapters in the Select Networks window. e. Then, switch to Network Monitor, press F5 to start NetMon. f. Try to access the shared folder on target machine again. When it failed, go to step 7. g. Go back to the NetMon window and press F7 to stop the NetMon. h. Press Ctrl+S to save the Netmon file named test. Then please upload to SkyDrive (www.skydrive.live.com ) and share the link to me. Thanks, Novak
