Netorking problem with new laptop
I have sought help at others forums, but have not been able to cure this problem:My new Toshiba laptop can access the enternet thru the wired or wireless connection to my modem, but it cannot see any other computers on the net and even if they see the Toshiba they cannot access the shared drives on the Toshiba. I am trying to access this computer, and have it access the other computers by clicking on -- Network Places -- View Network Computers -- Up a level to ascertain that the workgroups are identical -- then on the workgroup name to see all connected computers. All others see all computers -- the new Toshiba sees only itself. All computers ,including the new Toshiba, on the local net run Win XP SP3, all can access the Internet, all (Sony desktop, new homemade media center computer, 10 year old Compaq Presario laptop, and 6 year old Toshiba Satellite laptop) except the new Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop access each other's files, folders, and printers. My old Toshiba sees and accesses all the shared resources on the net. My home network consists of the computers listed above, plus 1 linksys cable modem & 1 linksys 4 port wireless router -- security = WEP. All other computers see the new Toshiba but get the error message that it is not accessable when you click on it. The new Toshiba laptop sees only itself on the network. It is in the same workgroup as the other computers.Sharing is enabled on all computers on the network. This Tosbiba laptop has all (or all I can find) sharing and security settings the same as my older Toshiba laptop (which sees and accesses the files and folders on all other computers.)I know this is a long post, but I have been familiar with setting up peer-to=peer networks since Windows 3.1, this computer is the first I have not been able to connect. Thanks for help and advise to get this computer on the net. <!-- / message -->2 people need an answerI do too
