Netgear WG311v3 wireless PCI adapter not working on windows 7 x64
I purchased a Netgear WG311v3 wireless PCI adapter for my 545 DELL Inspirion desktop running windows 7 64x. After installing it it would not work. I restarted the computer and pressed F8 to disable the driver sig. enfrcmnt. It worked great after that, although annoying to have to do that each time I start computer. I later became infected with a virus. I deleted everything off the hard drive and reinstalled the OS. I then reinstalled my wireless PCI adapter from Netgear. It will not work, not even with the F8 to disable the driver sig. enfrcmnt. I have installed and uninstalled the driver software and taken out/replaced the card in its slot so many times and nothing works. I even downloaded the driver update from windows update but that one will not work either. I called their tech support and they tell me it is not compatable with windows 7, even though the ONLY reason I bought it was because it advertises that it IS compatable in big words covering their whole box! Since it worked fine at first I threw out all packaging and reciept so I cannot return it. Im stuck with this card that dont work. Driver status says "cannot start" code 10. I just can't understand how it worked before with the F8 and now it doesn't. Anyone have any ideas?

Read the post @ http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?p=258044#post258044 and you shall see that your wireless adapter is not compatible with Windows 7. Your gripe is with Netgear, not Microsoft. Microsoft does not write any software drivers or utilities for third party hardware.

The tech support I called was Netgear, not microsoft. Netgear tech support told me their product is not compatable with windows 7 but yet they advertise it all over their box to get you to buy it. They also said they have no idea when they would have a supported driver and I could call microsoft if I wanted to see if they had a work around. Ill never buy another Netgear product due to the false advertising. I never did call microsoft because as you stated, it is not their problem. I did however post this issue here to see maybe if someone knew a work around or something that might work. Thnx for the link and info, Ill take a look at that :) I guess this problem is solved, but I welcome any ideas or work arounds anyone might know of :P

I just wanted to update this post. I checked back on the Netgear website and saw that they have now come out with a windows 7 compatible driver. http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13589 I downloaded it today and the same thing is happening. I keep getting code 10 in driver staus and it will not work. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a solution that worked for me. You can try it. I am running windows 7 64 bit. The windows 7 driver does not work at all for me it just code tens on me. I uninstall all netgear drivers. I then go to device manager and uninstall the device and be sure to check the box that says "delete driver software for this device". (try to do all this while offline, if you have connected some other way) I restart computer ( I just left adapter in slot, So tired of taking it out and back in again!). When computer restarts. I install the vista driver on my system. You'll have to download it on a disc from their website somehow or use their disc if its vista. Then just restart computer. When it restarts go to device manager. My adapter appeared as "ethernet controller", ( your may say Netgear WG311v3) but in either case select whatever you may have. click update driver. Select "Browse my computer for driver software". Then Select "let me choose from a list of driver on my computer". You will see the Netgear driver, select that. It will say not digitally signed, click continue anyway. It will give you error code 52. Then do nothing. Only restart the computer. Continuosly press F8 when u see the BIOS. Use down arrows to select "Disable driver signiture enforcement", hit enter and start computer. When computer starts, just follow on screen instruction to connect to the internet!! You will have to press the F8 each time you start the computer, but it is a work around until they get these drivers figured out. Let me know if it works for you too! Good luck!

There is a big problem with netgear which i figured out and my pc is working fine now. When you visit the netgear webstie the issue is that if your pc is having 4gb or more ram then this problem crop up. so I removed 2 gb ram and left pc working with 2gb only instead of 4 gb and my router got connected instantly on windows 7. Try it and let me know your workarounds on windows 7. Thanks.

Once again, most people don't want to remove half their RAM just to get an old G wireless card to work.
