Netdom logon failure, without trying to connect to server
I am attempting to script a automatic joining to Active directory and am having issues with netdom.exe. I am using netdom as this is for more than 100 machines, have a ghost image, and need to change the computer name at time of joining. Netdom.exe does this. So I went into "Turn Windows Feature On or off" and turn on the RSAT > Role Administrator Tools > AD DS and AD LDS Tools (checked everything) > AD DS Tools and checked everything, so netdom.exe is installed. When I type netdom, I get the help text. However, when I type netdom JOIN <computer name> /Domain:<domain> /UserD:<user name> /PasswordD:<password> I get the following error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. The command failed to complete successfully. It fails without attempting to connect to server. I have successfully used this command in XP, and have seen it run on Windows 7 successfully. What am I missing?
