Net User ID
I have a BV-5005HD media player (CT - CinemaTube) and am trying to get it to see my PC. I have 2 PC's hooked up, both running XP, SP3, that have never been networked or passworded. After running the Network Wizard on each, PC #1 can be seen and its shared folder accessed, but CT is asking for a "Net User ID" to see PC #2. When I first setup PC #2 in 2008, I did incremential backup images every few days after loading new programs. I have found that reloading my 2nd image file allows the CT to see the shared folder without asking for the Net User ID. Reloading the 3rd image file (made 6 days later) CT again wants the "Net User ID". I uninstalled every program on the PC (from this image) but CT still wants the Net User ID. Unfortunately, a lot has been added since the image #2, so I really don't want to start over, plus I'd like to find the cause of this. I've gone as far as loading the 3rd image file onto PC #1 (which had worked fine) and now CT asks for the "Net User ID" on that one also. I've proven that the CT and all PC hardware are fine so I figure it has to be some kind of security issue. However,I have searched the web for an answer as to how to get rid of the "Net User ID" but see no answers. I hope that you may have seen this problem and know how to solve it. I just want to disable whatever is causing the request for a "Net User ID". Sorry this is so long but I wanted to show that I have exhausted all possibilities that I can think of.1 person needs an answerI do too

I dont know anything about Cinema Tube, but check out post #2307 http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=18053399As far as windows xp goes, right click on my computer, select manage, local users and groups, select users, make sure each xp machine has the same accounts and passwords.

The post #2307 did not help. There are no passwords in any of my PC's. I'm sure there has to be some way of disabling the "net user ID" request and someone, somewhere, probably knows how.

HiThis is Not a Windows issue. I t seems that CT is using its own way of communicating with the Network, and is not using the regular procedures used by many Windows compatible devices.I found this link, http://brite-viewforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=328brite-viewforum.com appears to be the support site for the CT, poke around there may be you would find a solution..Jack MVP-Networking. Thanks for the input, however, I've already been thru that BriteView link without any luck. I may be looking at this "with blinders on" but if I load an earlier image of my PC, the CT will find and play the videos fine without any Net User ID needed. That image, unfortunately, is 2 years old and a lot has changed in the PC. That's why I am thinking it has to be a Windows security issue and not a hardware issue. PS.. My friend has an O!Play that sees his PC fine but wants the Net User ID for his wife's PC. Extremely confused.

HiThe problem seems to stem from propriety handling by CT. If it is, old and not compatible any more with a New OS' then it is a problem.I have host of hardware that worked on Win98se and cannot work further, the same about Win XP. The issue is the chipset in the hardware is old and cannot respond to commands that are used by newer hardware/OS' and drivers structure. To put it in cars terms ;). If you have an Alternator from an old car, it would work as a replacement for an alternator of a new computerized modern car..Jack MVP-Networking. EZLAN.NET

I tend to agree about the compatability issue, but image #2 of XP allowed the CT to get the files and image #3 (made 6 days later) asks for the net user ID. All that was changed in that time was adding CA Security suite, some printer setups and setting up 2 accounts on Outlook Express. I uninstalled CA Suite and disabled the Outlook Express accounts but it still did not work. I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but I can't wrap my head around XP SP3 working with CT and then the image of 6 days later asking for the Net User ID. I hate to just continue from the image that works because I will not have solved the problem, only band-aided it. And if, for some reason it starts asking for the ID again, I still won't know what the fix is.

I finally gave up and reloaded an image that worked. The CT now sees the PC. I have no idea what caused the problem.
