Need to print on networked printer connected to win98 print server from windows 7
I am having a heck if a time trying to get my windows 7 laptop to print on the laser printer on the old 98 print server. Upgrading this unit is out of the question, as there is obsolete software running on it that will not run on anything newer. I have no trouble connecting from all the XP machines on the network, both wired and wireless and printing on this printer, only the windows 7 and vista machine have this trouble. I used to be able to print from vista, but something happened, and it stopped working. The printer is connected to the USB port on the 98 server. I created the port in the standard way, and entered the printer name, and according to windows 7 it sees the printer, just won`t print. The correct driver is installed for win 7.

You need to install Windows 7 compatible printer driver in Windows 7 and then make a port forward to forward the local printer port to TCP/IP port. Please download the driver from manufacturer website if it is present and install it. Then follow the steps below. 1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.2. Click Add a Printer. 3. Select "Add a local printer". 4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port. 5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format. \\[IP address of the host computer]\[The Share Name of the printer] Then click Next. 6. Choose the correct driver in the driver list. If no available driver, click the button Windows Update, wait for the process finishes and then look for the driver again.7. Finish the installation. If the printers cannot be installed, or it does not work after installing, please let us know the model of the printer. Also please let us know if file sharing works properly. Arthur Xie - MSFT
