Need help setting up a Scheduled Task for when the computer goes onto battery power
Hi there, Here's my situation. I have a network consisting of two Windows 7 desktops and a Windows Home Server. They are all connected to UPS's, however the one that the server is connected to doesn't have the usb cable (so that it can shut the server down). My fear is that the server will still run out of power, and cause damage to the data when it stops suddenly. What I would like to do is this. I would like to create a scheduled task (or service) that I can run on one of my Windows 7 Desktops. The scheduled task would kick on as soon as the computer goes onto battery power, and execute the command shutdown -h -m\\servername -t 240. I would need to have this run as Administrator, so that it would shut the server down. So, my questions are these: What settings do I need in the scheduled task to make it trigger when the computer goes to battery power? Exactly what would the command look like to either shut the server down or hibernate it (preferred)? The UPS that the desktop is using has it's own software to control it, but the software doesn't allow me to execute commands or run programs. Would the scheduled task still trigger if that application is controlling the computer's power managements, or do I need to use Windows 7's Power Management feature? Also is this possible, or am I wasting my time? If worse comes to worse, it's temporary until I can purchase a UPS system that works with Windows Home Server. Thanks and have a great weekend:)Patrick.Smile.. Someone out there cares deeply for you.
