Need Help networking windows 7 with an XP Machine
I have searched all over and cannot find the answer to my specific problem, i see many answers on how to network the 2 machines but not my problem so any help would be great...the problem i am having is i have a windows 7 machine and 2 XP Machines, i have set up all the right settings for the network and i can access the shared folders on the windows 7 pc, BUT i set up my D drive on the windows 7 PC to be shared and the Xp systems cannot access the shared drive. All network setting are correctSame user account on all machinesshared the windows 7 drive and set the permissons to full for everyoneChanged the settings in the security tab on the drive.I am just at a loss as i need to access the D drive on the windows 7 machine and the XP's get the usual "you might not have permission to use this resourse...."

I found this on the How-To Geek's web site, but I don't know if it will work. Let me know. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-7/share-files-and-printers-between-windows-7-and-xp/

Thanks for the response :)but i have already seen that, it is a great guide for printers and public sharing but it doesn't show anything on how to share an entire drive. My 2nd drive on my windows 7 system is my main data drive so i need to access it or mount it from my Xp systems and it just will not allow me to :(

Have you tried reducing the authentication level on Windows 7 per this thread? #mce_temp_url# or maybe better this one... http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/033c418b-1096-4df7-bfad-fd3d431f3cd5 Good luck

Did you give the "network" permission to access the Windows 7 drives? "Network" is something you have to add.

Hi Vismag,On Windows 7, try going back to the Homegroup Settings and select the option to Leave the Homegroup. Next, locate the option to add 7 to the existing Workgroup (where the 2 xp machines are). Reboot all machines.Techsent

Hi Vismag,Here are some suggestions you can try:1. Temporarily turn off firewall on each machine. Then please share a folder in another drive on the Windows 7 machine and check the result.2. Restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking and access the shared folder again.3. Try choose Share with --- Specific People --- add Everyone, give him Read&Write permission. Then go to Advanced Sharing in Share tab, check "Share this folder" box, click Permission button, add the Everyone, check Full Control and click OK to test. What's the result? Thanks,Novak
