Name Change of network
I have a small domain running Server 2003 and 5 Windows 7 pro workstations. It has all been running fine for several months, but last week one W 7 workstation changed the connection from the PC to the internet from the domain name to network 3. I have no idea what network 3 is or why it changed. I rejoined the machine to the domain and it solved the problem. Today it happened again on a different computer. The strange thing is the computer is still connected to the domain and all the other computers show up on the network. Everything works except for the name change. Is this anything to worry about? How can I stop it from happening? ???? kenr7485

Hi kenr7485, Check to determine if the network adapter drivers automatically updated on the machines with network3. When it reconnected after the driver update it may have created a new connection name. If this is the case, turn off automatically install updates.

You see, In windows 7 network adapters have 3 profiles Public, Work (or Domain) and Private (or Home) so when the profile changes it names the new network such as an increment value as of before.. All these profiles do is change firewall rules Just change your network profiles back to work by going to the network and sharing center in control pannel and update your network profile back to work. You can this by selecting the current network profile type under your current cconnection... if u need an assistance pls let me know
