NEW dell studo 2 weeks old with same problem blackscreen after login
I have a 2 week old dell desktop with windows 7 ultimate. 2 days ago my system restarted after a flash of a blue screen and when it came back up i had a normal login. I signed in and only had a mouse. THe screen was blank not even the windows key would work. I have since restored the system to factor and am hoping it doesn't do it again. If anyone finds a fix let us know.

Make sure you don't let Windows Update apply any drivers, know what Windows Update is doing as it could have been the culprit but we'll never know now, now that you've restored it back to factory defaults. ;-)MCSE, MCSA, MCDST

It is likely that Windows Updates will help more than hurt. Can't say why you would have had the problem initially... Was it near the time you downloaded or installed software?Since the computer is pretty new, have you run the Dell diagnostics on it? It could be a hardware failure.-Noel

To check if it is the driver update problem, you can change its settings and install the updates by batch: 1. Load Windows Update. 2. Click Change settings on the left pane. 3. Change then settings to download but let you choose install or not. Click OK. When the updates are downloaded, you can choose updates by batch to install. It will help identify if it is the update problem.Vivian Xing - MSFT
