I am having the same problem although i didnt install anything called VmWare. I am unable to access network drives or even sign onto a wireless network if its not one i have previously setup a connection for. This error seems to be tied into a service svchost.exe I think if you check your computers you will find that, that file is not running in your task mannager. When you try to exicute that file it does nothing. And when you go into services and attempt to start it you recieve the error we seem to be affected by. If any of you have found a solution please e-mail me or post it here. Thanks, Matt disciple3069@hotmail.com

SOLVED!!!! This problem is being caused by AIM. looks like the Army of Lamers has struck again with some buggy software. AIM 6.5 and possibly 6.0+ are causing this problem. It took all day of looking but I found a website listing this problem. They reported that AIM was the cause of this problem so I uninstalled AIM 6.5 and then loaded my vista ultimate to a restore point exactly 1 day before i installed aim and poof the error is gone and my network listing service is restored. So in a nutshell.. its not a virus, adware or malware. It appears to actualy be AIM. Using this method to rolling back my PCs not only fixed my desktop but also my Laptop both of which restored back to the same day, exactly 1 day before installing the new AIM. Good luck you guys

I got hit with the same problem last night. It happened immediately after installing a new version of AIM, so I believe you're right about that being the cause. Unfortunately none of my restore points seem to be working. Has anyone found a manual solution to this?

Just to let everyone know - I had the same problem with Vista and let it sit for 2 months just waiting on a solution (I am deployed in the middle east anyways, so internet availability isnt the best...). I got a wild hair a growing and decided to try and re-install the latest AIM i got from a buddywith XP. I made sure that UAC was turned on, and installed either 6.5, or the newer 6.5.something....either way - once the install finished, I went straight to the my computer properties and was actually able to see my processor and ram specs again! So I then tried to manually start the netprofm service and it started up fine, and continues to do so every time I restart my laptop....so for me - the problem is fixed ! I hope you all can duplicate the solution on your machines too!
