NAS not accessible by name - just IP
I've got an 1TB LaCie 2big Network NAS. My main computer, Win7 Ultimate 64bit has stopped being able to access the NAS by it's name \\CORTEX\ It used to work, but now it doesn't any more. I am not sure what changed. I can access the NAS's admin site if I use the IP it has. And the Lacie Network Assistant detects the device, but is also unable to map the network drives. I have tried disabling the firewall (Windows Firewall) I have tried disabling Avast5 Free No change. I am on the same workgroup. My other desktop computer, running Vista 32bit Ultimate, manage to connect to the device and list it under Network. My new laptop, Win7 Home Premium 64bit is able to access and list the NAS. My two Mac Mini's OSX10.4 and 10.5 manage to list and access the NAS. So the device is working as it should. But something on my main computer has changed and caused it to be able to list the device or access it from it's name. I do not know exactly when it happened - therefore I do not know what might have been done to cause this. I thought I could compare the settings in Local Security Policy between my Desktop and my Laptop - but since the Laptop has Home Premium that is not an option. I have contacted Lacie and they have not been able to resolve this. I am fully stomped on this one. Anyone got any ideas?-Cheers!

I found the error! (Of course after finally posting...) The Subnet Mask had been changed from 255.255.255.0 to 255.0.0.0. When I changed it back to 255.255.255.0 everything worked fine again.-Cheers!
