NAS invisible to W7 pro
Have Buffalo and D-Link NAS devices on our Server 2003 network. All XP procomputers and the Server have no issues finding and mapping drives. 2007 Pro does not show the NAS nor the XP machines in it's drive mapping routine. I've even input the name domain\server\\NAS\share (& varations)with no luck. Short of running in XP mode, can I get 7pro to act like XP pro by changing some settings somewhere? We use a domain, the server does the dchp and dns for our network, and the NAS utility will "find" the drive running on the W7 machine (means that ping works). Had to move dchp from router to server (during router replacement), and this precipitated problem.

Hi, Can you ping the NAS or Windows XP machine from the Windows 7 machine? To troubleshoot the issue, I suggest you perform the following steps. 1. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine. 2. Modify relevant settings on Windows 7 machine. a. Click Start and open Control Panel. b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings". c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options: "Turn on Network Discovery", "Turn on file and printer sharing", "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders", "Turn off password protected sharing" 3. 5Write down the IP address for Windows XP or NAS. Click Start button in Windows 7 and type \\IP address for the Windows XP machine, and then press enter. Can you access the Windows XP computer? If there is any error message, please capture the window and post it here for research. Thanks, Novak

Hi Novak, I found this thread because I was looking for an answer to the same problem in my home network. A LaCie network drive with a static IP address doesn't show up in my network or homegroup on my HP portable (W 7 Premium 64 bit, brand new, Dutch), while it shows up on my desktop (W 7 Prof 32-bit, Dutch). I followed your steps and voila, there it is! I made a shortcut so I can acces it now, so I circumvented the problem, but I don't know why it happens... Kind regards, John van Hulst
