NAS: D-Link DNS-323 in use under Vista
Anyone tried this devicetogether with Vista? There is no Vista-driver for this device. At the D-Link webpage, it says (and has said for many months) "Coming soon". Any idea when this will happen? The "easy search" tool/application does not find the NAS Any workaround for this problem? I've tried to connect to the NAS from a portable PC on the same network. Everything's fine! - but I cannot see the PC which runs the Vista... So, does this tell anyone anything? Is there something wrong with the network-settings? Thanks and regards, "Tja"

The only problem is D-Link hasn't made a Vista driver. Until that happens, unfortunately, it will not work. If you contact D-Link, they may be able to give you a date when the driver is supposed to be released, or, they may have a beta version of the driver, that they aren't releasing publicly

I guess that's what I'll have to do - just wait... But the missing driver doesn't explain why I cannot see the Vista-PC on the network?

I've had some success! I have XP SP2 pro and Vista Ultimate PCs in a workgroup both using this network drive. I have upgraded the firmware and can now access it but it's not fully functional from Vista. I can RW and delete files but not rename them.Anyone had more joy?

I spoke with the DLINK support staff, the DNS-323 item is not supported (or expected to work) under Vista. I got no information about drivers / firmware.I configured and managed to format drives under XP, but when plugged into a Vista machine it is recognised by name in "Easysearch" but does not appear as a drive.I will not be buying DLINK again, I specifically asked the supplier if it would work under Vista and was told it would, I raised three tickets with DLINK eSupport, received one reply (asking me to press the reset button!) and then the ticket was deleted from the site, the other two tickets never received a reply. Given that the links on their own site do not point to UK support as they claim it does not bode well for their equipment.Useless, I should have bought Thecus N4100... At least it looks prettier.

There is an easy fix to you problem. You need to change a setting in Vistas registry:Try this workaround. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\LsaSet Value in 'LmCompatibilityLevel' from 3 to 1 and reboot.

Hi guys I have the same problem & have made no progress trying to fix for the past 2or3 months. I've just tried setting LmCompatibilityLevel to 1 (thanks for the suggestion, Bjorn-Inge) but no improvement. I was really hopeful for a few minutes, there! Frustratingly, the Vista machinecan see & play music from the media server built intothe DNS-323 butcan not see the HDD on the network. Running Dlink Easy Search Utility, I can see HDD_1 but can't map it (prompted byuser & password screen, despite this all being disabled) Worked fine on my old XP laptop on the same network. TheXP machine isnow dead (another long story!), sothis hasbecomea bigger problem as I now only have the Vista machine to play with.

Hi! Scince Samba can't use NTLMv2 you have to change Vistas preferences from demanding NTLMv2 to accepting LM and NTLM but preferring NTLMv2 authentication. This is accomplished through the Local Security Policy editor. Open Vistas start menu and write policy in the search bar and hit enter.Under Local Policies and Security Options open the Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level Properties entry. Change the value to Send LM and NTLM Use NTLM-v2 session security if negotiated. Restart the computer to activate the changes. Good luck!

Hi Mikael Thanks for the suggestion but I think this is another way of doing the sameas in Bjorn-Inge's post? see 'LmCompatibilityLevel' values & effects For anyone wanting to trythis,VistaHome Premiumedition does not includethe local security policy editor (secpol.msc), soB-I's regedit route would appear to bethe one to take (unless, of course, secpol changes something else in the registry as well???) D-Link's UK support page makes some reference to running the DNS-323 under Vista, so I triedupgrading to latest firmware & latest EasySearch "driver" software. Result: Still can't map drive.

Looks like this post hasnt been updated for awhile, I seem to have run into the same problem and tried the regedit fix above since the secpol.msc file cannot be run on my version Vista. I still cannot see or map my DNS-323 into VIsta and get the login/pw screen popup... Does anyone have any other suggestions that arent in this post? Thanks,CT

I'm running under things in the same way. I've reserved an IP address for any device on my router so the DNS has always been dynamically assinged the same IP. I've also mapped the drive manually but using the device name from the SETUP\DEVICE tab of the admin screen. That way should I swap the reserved IP the mapping will still be valid. I have also had success connecting a printer to the USB port. Now I just need to sort out the renaming/Read write issue that I've been having. I havn't tried setting changing the registry entry though so that may resolve it!

I had a similar problem accessing DNS-323 (firmware 1.03) from Vista Business on a Dell Vostro laptop. A couple of emails to dlink support did not help. I was going to call them but decided to try a few more things found on Google. I was able to get it to work based on info found on Google. Most likely the instructions on the DNS 323 wiki site did the trick (this is the last one I tried). http://wiki.dns323.info/information:known_issues (look under "Share not accessible after reboot"). Here is the sequence of steps before it started working. upgrade formware to 1.03 (its on dlink support site). assign a static IP address to the dns-323 (this means you have to have a local dns server). I 'm not sure if this is 100% needed but I have a dns server and I did it. follow the instructions on the dns323 wiki site for vista (i.e. enable admin account, add an entry for dns-323 ip under hosts and lmhosts) and reboot, logon as admin and run the 3.5.0.0 version of the dns-323 easy search utility to map Volume_1. if you don't want to use it under admin account you can disable admin account from another id, reboot and then map using Easy Search utility under your own id and it should work (it did for me).If it still does not work an alternative is to enable the ftp server and access it like ftp://user@<dns323-host-name> from explorer. good luck.

Worked for me also. Just got off the phone with DLink Support (January 2008) andthey admitted they still don't have (as they put it) a full solution for Vista. My laptop running XP can see the device fine but had to manually map the ip address and volume names for the drivers using my new desktop running Vista. Don't know what I would have done without myXP machine - probably SOL. Great advice!!!

Photomic wrote: I've had some success: Whilst trying to get an ethernet networked printer (Konica Minolta 2530DL)up & running, I discovered that I had toassign a static IP address andreserve same onwireless router (Netgear DG834). Otherwise, using default dynamically served IP addresses, every time I powered up the router, IP addresses would be changed depending on power-up sequence. Sometimes the printer got itscorrect address, sometimes thelaptop got there first, and so on. The result of this was that sometimes the printer would talk, sometimes not, as IP addresses were swapped around all over the place. I know the system should be able to sort itself out with dynamic IP addressesbut haven't got time to explore this fully as I've got too many other (Vista) issues to fix. So, Ithought static IP addressesmade some sense androlled out to all the other hardware on the network, including DNS-323. At this point, I still couldn''t "find" the HDD on the DNS-323 but now I could manually map the HDD: Open windows Explorer. Tools / Map Network Drive. Pick a free drive letter. Instead of browsing for the DNS-323 HDD (which doesn't appear in the available list), manually enter your chosen static IP address & path to it, in the form... \\192.168.0.5\Volume_1\ Bingo, up it comes. Since doing this, I've been able to access fully from both Vista & XP machines. Music server still works; life is good. Repeat the mapping as required, for any sub-folder paths you wish to have as drive letters, eg. \\192.168.0.5\Volume_1\Music\ \\192.168.0.5\Volume_1\Photos\ Not sure this is the most elegant approach but it worked for me -Good luck!! Thank You. This works for me.

I've been following this thread because I was also having trouble with my DNS-323 under Vista. I just want let everyone know that D-Link has recently released working drivers for Vista which are of course available at D-Link's website.

Just a word of caution on the driver. I have not tried it myself but there are several people reporting that it's causing their Vista system a BSOD upon shutdown.http://forum.dsmg600.info/t2195-Vista-Driver.html
