My windows 7 network locations are read only.
Hi all, I am a first time Q'er and computer novice so please be kind! I am trying to access excel csv files that are saved to a network drive on a server at my workplace. When I 'map a network drive' in "my computer" and configure my username and password everything runs smoothly and I can access and view all my files saved onto the network, however when I try to open the excel csv files, I cannot. The prompt is that they are read only, or the location is read only. I can open the same excel file from my regular documents section but when I tried to save the file into the network location, it will not allow, the prompt is that the location is read only. I do not know how to change my network location properties or preferences. I have tried by opening "network location" and then "properties" but when I remove the read only preference and apply the change, nothing happens. The change is ignored and the setting reverts back to read only, which must be the defult. I really need these excel csv files on my network, can anyone help to make my network location NOT read only PLEASE? I had the same computer with vista installed and this was never a problem, only since upgrading to windows 7 has this problem occurred.

Hi, Can you access the Excel file on another machine in the network? This issue can occur if your current user account do not have enough permission. I suggest you modify the Excel file properties on target machine and assure that everyone has enough permission to modify it. If there is any error message, please upload it Thanks, Novak

I've seen the same thing on my network. I have 3 lab machines (Windows 7) and a new laptop. I access the files and folders off a little NAS using Administrator and/or my own issued name which is part of the administators group and still can't change the file permissions without it changing back. Anyone know how to fix/solve this issue?
