My virus vault is full. Do I really have to back up my hard drive to an external hard drive, restore to factory settings and then replace everything?
Whenever I scan my computer, I put all potential threats into the virus vault. Now it is full, and the potential threats that remain have nowhere to go. I took it to a shop to find out how to safely remove the items from the vault and delete them forever. The answer they gave me makes very little sense."What you need to do is back up your hard drive onto an external hard drive. Restore your computer to factory settings. Then transfer everything back to your computer, and that will get rid of everything in the vault."I asked this question."If I put everything onto a new hard drive, won't that take the vault contents with them?"Answer: "Probably."My Question: "Why would I want to spread the potential threats to a new hard drive?"Answer: "If you restore it to factory settings, and the computer did not have threats then they're gone. Just put everything back onto the computer, and it will be fixed."My Question: "So if the back up 'probably' kept all potential threats; then won't they be returned?"Answer: "Just follow my instructions, and it will be okay."I haven't done this yet because "probably" did not sit well with me. Can someone give me an answer that is not a guess? I use AVG Free Edition.1 person needs an answerI do too
