My screen turns off and I can not bring it back on when the screen saver turns it off.
Hi I am using HP dv5000 laptop with NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 VGA card. When ever the computer turns off the screen I am not able to bring it back and it seems that the pc is working because the keyboard led,s are responding. The only way to bring it back is to hard boot it. I have disabled the option now that turns the screen off from power settings tab but that eats the batteries quickly of the lap top when it is without external power. Any one else facing this problem with this model?

I don't know if this is related or not. I have an old IBM laptop, and after entering my password the screen goes blank yet the hard drive continues operating. I found that by using the screen select, I can bring it back. for me that's fn + F7. It works, I don't know why or how I happened to stumble on it. If I continue hitting that key combination I get funny screen results (different sizes) instead of toggling between screen options. If this works for you good, otherwise sorry for bothering you.Jerry

Hi there no problem you are always welcome to post a solution. Its another matter ifit helps or not. For me it always helps specially when you are learning the ropes (like me).Well it never worked the way you said it works for you. It may be that the IBM has this option to change the screen size. You can try that with older version of windows if it works there also for your PC then it is by the IBM and not by Windows. My fn + F7 is screen brightness down option.

mnajee:Do you still have this problem with Windows 7 Beta or Windows 7 RC?-Nick

Nick - Uh... Given the age of the post - I somehow doubt it's with the RC... @ mnajee - If you happen to be still having the issue - the key combination on the HP dv5000 series that switches the laptop from it's own display to an external is FN + F4.

I asked that question in case he had upgraded to Windows 7 RC and his problem went away. I understand he was using Windows 7 Beta at the time of the post.-Nick

Mnajee, I would recommend converting to Windows 7RC if you are still using the Beta as the Beta will expire very shortly. Windows 7RC has many changes in comparrison to the Beta release.
