My laptop is damaged after scanning with Onecare scanner
My OS is XP Professional SP 3.I scanned my laptop with Onecare scanner, and since then it just does not work.Windows take forever to load, and if and when it finally loads, it freezes.I performed a scan disk several times, but no results.Windows loads well though in safe mode and I could not do a system restore because the restore point it seems was deleted by the scan1 person got this answerI do too

...and if HijackThis shows no evidence of infection, use this alternative method to rollback any registry changes that the Safety Scanner registry cleaning may have implemented by using undo .REG files:http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/73/1/How-to-rollback-the-registry-settings-after-Windows-OneCare-Safety-Scanner-Cleanup.htmlThose undo .REG files are currently located on your system here:%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live OneCare safety scanner\BackUpYou can seek further assistance on the Safety Scanner forums:http://boards.msn.com/safetyboards/thread.aspx?threadid=1206329&post=1206329&boardsparam=HIPDelay%3D1Regards, Dave

Hi DaveWanted to thank you for your posting.I have scanned with 4 different anti-virus/anti-spyware applications as per Nass1 advice, and no evidence of any infection showed. So I followed your advice and rolled back my registry and I could see an instant and substantial difference.I also visited microsoft boards; and found it very alarming to learn that using the One Care scanner damages the registry???R. Mike You need to mark Dave Post as the Answer not your Post. Make sure to run one of the two antimalware to make sure nothing bad reverted in the registry. nass -- http://www.nasstec.co.uk
