Can you give us some more information. Was this an upgrade or a clean install? Do you get sound through your speakers?ThanksKerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Do you have the correct sound drivers installed for your system? Is it jsut your headphones or is it your speakers as well? ~Alex T.~Windows Desktop Experience MVP~

hey man, double check your sound settings in the control panel, it could be that you have nothing installed for a device, volume isnt turned up or depending on your systems configuration you may have to change the default playback device.let me know if i can be of any helpMike

I have the same problem. I get sound out of my speakers, even when my headphones are plugged in. I have Win 7 dual-booted with Vista. My headphones aren't coming out of a speaker, I have a laptop, so the headphone jacks are in the front of the computer. I can provide more info if needed.

I experienced a similar; however, not identical issue where my headphones (Plantronics USB) would be functioning fine and suddenly stop working. A reboot would restore functionality, but was not an ideal resolve. Today, I took some time to further investigate the issue and found an Exclusive Mode checkbox within the Control Panel which appears to allow exclusive rights to that particular playback device; essentially blocking all other applications from accessing it. Once that box was unchecked, my headphones were fully functional once again! Steps taken: Open the Sound Control Panel to the Playback tab. Ensure the malfunctioning device is listed as well as set to the Default Device. Go into the Properties of the malfunctioning device under the advanced tab Uncheck Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device Hope this can help others!
