My guest user is administrator and I can't remove it! VERY COMPLICATED!!
Okay for whatever reason I made my guest account admin I didn't think much of it... but I guess until now it became a big problem. I can't install anything or do anything that requires Admin rights... and even when I'm on the guest user(admin) I still can't use anything admin related. I can't CHANGE the GUEST account type, I can't ADD or REMOVE any accounts because it says that I'm trying to use invalid characters such as #$&(@... i tried going on Command Prompt in safe mode to activate the built-in admin.. "net user administrator /active:yes" with no luck it said "Access denied" how do I solve this? I really tried looking into a lot of guides and I just see the same responses from the people that never dealt with this that just suggest things to try to be helpful but never really work... has anyone solved this?

If you don't have administator rights there is nothing you can do. It's designed that way. -- . -- "georgie123" wrote in message news:e3be7031-c848-4d70-ad6a-6bb89a86cde1... You can try booting from a Windows DVD and try System Restore. -- . -- "tarincrowder" wrote in message news:d74a1f96-c125-4ead-af8f-bd4af6364411... i have the same problem is there seriously nothing i can do David Candy

I'm gonna render more advice than "all is lost" or try to rely on less than reliable system restores. You could very well be suffering from a corrupt Security Accounts Manager (SAM) file and it is a portion of the registry. Problem is, you have to be highly privileged to access the corrupt portions and you're experiencing the frustration of someone that has to perform self surgery and wthout an assisting surgeon. If you're resigned to the fact your system might be ripe for a reinstall and you understand that the following techniques carry some risk, minimal and about as minimal as someone actually crashing an airliner because they used their portable electronic device immediately after takeoff risk... then continue on with confidence: You're going to need anothyer working PC internet connected to download the LINUX password reset tool, a good thread on its usage and the link to various locaitons can be found at the MS partner site HowtoGeek http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/change-your-forgotten-windows-password-with-the-linux-system-rescue-cd/ It will uncover and illustrate any corrupted accounts and at a rudmentrary level, attempt to fix the corrupted registry HIVE. Another effective, but radical method, is just rename the SAM file and reboot the box but it reqiures some type of offline disk access utility and you find the c:\windows\system32\config\sam, renaming it deeltes your flawed user ID's but has implications such as locking you out of your encrypted files and you'll lose access to your profile preferences so your favorites are still on the system but just zombied since the assoicated user looks deleted. Rename it to anything but "sam", move it to another locaiton you know how to return to Reboot the system, logon with the user ID Administrator and a blank / no password
