My computer turns on but won't boot up...
When I press the button I can hear my computers fan turn on but the light doesn't and my screen stays black. For reasons I don't know, my computer did turn on about a week or two after it started and I used the opportunity to search the internet to find an answer but didn't find one. The next time I tried to turn it on it went back to being broken. About a week or two later it turned on a second time and I did the same thing, didn't find anything. The second Time I tried to turn it on it almost didn't start but after about 5-10 seconds it turned on again. After shutting it off I tried once more to see if it would work but it didn't. It hasn't worked since and it has been about a month or two. I managed to get a new computer but I kept the broken one just in case I got it to work a third time to get my stuff off. Why isn't my old computer working and is there anyway I can get it to work at least one more time. PS: My old computer is a windows XP.1 person needs an answerI do too

You have hardware failure on the old computer. It could be something as simple as a dead power supply (an easy and fairly inexpensive fix) or more components could be bad. There is no way to tell without looking at the machine. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
