But still i can't get the computer t start up quicker.I don't know if it will help but ill post my system specs, and maybe someone will have some idea of what is wrong with my computer.OS name- Windows XP Home EditionVersion- 5.1.2600 service pack 3 build 2600system model- HP Pavillion dv2000System type- X86-based PCProcessor- x86 family 6 model 14 stepping 8 GenuineIntel~1596 MhzBIOS version- phoneix F.0B. 7/3/2006SMBIOS version- 2.4Total physical memory- 1,024 MBAvailable physical memory- 235.79 MBTotal virtual memory- 2.GBAvailable virtual memory- 1.95 GBGraphics chip- Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset familyTotal graphics memory-128.0 MBRAM/Memory-1014 MBI know this is probably more information than needed but if it can help, then why not.I hope someone can help.1 person needs an answerI do too

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any from than more than 48 hours ago. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. You will see a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. This places a copy of the report into your Clipboard. Paste into the body your message. Make sure that this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. Are any devices malfunctioning? Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. Open Components under System Summary and click on Problem Devices. Is anything listed there? Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties, Hardware, and Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code? To see Hidden Devices (Non Plug and Play Drivers) you need to select View, Show Hidden Devices. It is necessary to do this every time you open Device Manager if you need to see them. A further complication can be Ghosted Devices –installed but not connected!http://www.lockergnome.com/windows/2005/04/29/display-hidden-devices-in-device-manager-xp/Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

Also, i didn't find any warnings or errors in the other two categories in event viewer. I hope at least some of this helps you figure out my problem.----------Now when i looked in my system information for problem devices, it shows up two things:Device: PNP device ID: Error code:MPT device ROOT\WPD\0001 This device cannot start.MPT device ROOT\WPD\0000 This device is disabled.-----------I checked my device manager, and the only thing i saw was the MPT device again, with a yellow exclamation point on it. i went to properties, and it said this device cannot start. (Code 10)When i tried showing hidden devices, the only thing that had a symbol next to it was still MPT device.----------I hope any of this helps! Also, i'm sorry it took me so long to reply. I wasn't notified of your answer or else i would have replied a lot sooner.

Standard practice when obtaining a used PC is to perform a Clean Install. Did you do this?

No, i just used it as it was when my mom got it working again. We got the laptop because it wouldn't turn on for the guy so he gave it to my mom, and said: "If you get it working again, you can keep it" and so she cleaned out some of the things i think, but i was so excited to get it, not everything was cleaned. So a lot of the programs and things he put on here are still on, and i'm not sure whats important to keep and whats not, so i don't want to mess anything up and try to delete things. And honestly, if there is any other way to fix my computer other than redo everything, i would like to try, because i have many important things on my computer i can't backup because i have no external harddrive or blank CD's to make data cd's with. So i would essentially loose everything if i would do this Clean install, right?

What is the situation regarding Windows 7 Phone? Have you connected and not installed software? You have Norton 360 installed which can create significant problems causing system errors and performance issues. When does the subscription expire? Is this the only security software installed? What version of Firefox is installed?http://www.ampercent.com/disable-firefox-plugin-container-process/6383/ Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak? You have a number of other issues! It is always sensible in this situation to run a check for malware Download and install Malwarebytes (freeware version for home users only), update definitions and run in safe mode. Disable other security software whilst you are doing scans.http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Download and run SuperAntiSpyware (Free Edition)http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

Wow, i have no idea what Windows 7 phone even is. I have Windows XP, so it makes no sense to me. Maybe that was something installed when i installed something else, or its some old program the man who previously owned the computer installed? I know i haven't had any messages or notices involving any phone.I have 125 days remaining for my Norton subscription. I also have MalwareBytes installed, and Macafee security scan plus that came with another download. I don't use Macafee, and always close it out when it pops up, but i should probably delete it.I have Firefox version 3.6.13. Should i try disabling the container.exe from the link you provided??I went to task manager and here are the numbers:Total- 695520Limit- 2498080Peak- 782280And ill do a Malwarebytes scan now, though i usually do not disable Norton when i do it, so ill do that from now on. I'll also delete Macafee and install superantispyware and scan. I had a feeling there was a lot wrong with my computer, but i never know how to fix anything.

You have no idea how the computer has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly, what is missing, what viruses andspyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live with somebody else's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddy p0rn, etc., and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do so either. If you don't have media for backing up what's important, you shouldbuy the media. That's for two reasons:1. You definitely should reinstall Windows cleanly.2. Whether or not you reinstall Windows cleanly, you always need tohave a current backup. As has been said many times, it's not aquestion of whether you will lose your files, but *when" you willlose them.I recommend that you read this article I've written: "Back Up YourComputer Regularly and Reliably" athttp://www.computorcompanion.com/LPMArticle.asp?ID=314Ken Blake (MS MVP)

The thing is i don't know when ill be able to afford the external hard drive i want.I think once i get the money to get it, ill back everything up and install windows again. But is it free to install windows again?I never had to, and i don't think i have any disk that would do that.

Well, you wouldn't lose anything at all if you did get an external hard drive and back up all your data first. :-)Seriously. Hard drives can and do go bad. If you have important things on your PC, you really should reconsider your aversion to backing up data!

But from now on i'll make sure that i click it so i don't mess anything else up.Should i try using a different browser instead of firefox? I hate IE and chrome is always crashing on me. I have opera, but i never took the time to transfer my favorites and settings to it so i never use it. But if its not that huge of a problem, then i'll just stick with Firefox.I downloaded the zip file for the hosts link and clicked the MVPS.bat, so i think im good to go.

It's not so much that i don't want to, its just so expensive for a external harddrive. (maybe not to some people, but for me it is)If there was a better way to back everything up without using CD's i would. But i think the external harddrive is the best option. Plus i have been wanting one to store and back up my digital art for a while.

Newegg has a good one that can store 120GB of data for $29.99, including shipping. You also need to take into consideration the "cost" of losing your data.

Very true, but i think i have a semi- solution for right now.Norton has 2.0 GB of online backup i can use to back up my most important, non replaceable files, like my artwork and pictures.I can use that just in case something bad happens to my laptop until i can afford the external hard drive i want. And i don't have a credit card or debit card to order online, so i cant really take that option.I really dont have a lot of data that is not replaceable. So i would just have to spend time to re download everything and fix my settings.

Interupting any computer process in the wrong way risks file corruption. This can happens 999/1,000 you would never know if that had occurred!Firefox has had memory leaks for years but it remains popular. Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell
