My computer making very annyoing noise and suddenly stopped!____
why are there too many (approximately 8) svchost.exe running on my computer and sometimes one of those svchost.exe keeps my processor running almost 50% and make terrible noise and then suddenly stopped my computer? Can anyone please come up with a solution with this problem? I am using windows xp profesional sp3 running on Intel Pentium 4 HT machine.2 people need an answerI do too

servicehost is basicallyrunning because there are services running that you didn't necessarily launch yourself.if you are familiar with msconfig or regedit, you can get rid of a lot of stuff loading at startup that you might not WANT loading.if you are NOT familiar with them DON'T use them.you can still go to the 'startup' menu & delete items you don't want launching at startup from there. As far as the noise goes, I need some sort of description other than 'annoying' and 'terrible'.[Children squealing outside my window is terribly annoying, but still normal.]Does it sound like a wav file?Does it sound mechanical?Does it sound like a feedback squeal?Does it sound like your mother-in-law?More information needed.

thanks for your response and in addition i would like to tell you the total scenerio, i am using selective startup by msconfig command and sometimes my computer is running well enough and smoothly, but suddenly it makes a lot of noise like cpu cooler fan is running too fast and its too loud so that you can hear it from another room, and when it happens everytime, i press "ctrl+alt+del" keys to see the task manager and see one of the svchost.exe process keeps running processor 48% to 50%. sometimes it is back to normal condition from 50% to 0%, but most of the time it stopped the computer in that situation. let me know if you need any more details to come up with best solution and i would appriciate your participation. Thanks

First, remember that msconfig is a tool to FIND the problem, so you can fix it.It is not the way you should be booting each time.Second, if you are hearing a fan sound, either the fan is bad, [which wouldcause overheating], or, it is good, but is still not enough to solve your overheating problem.Either way, it sounds like a hardware issue. So, find the location of the items you are disabling in msconfig, and do what you have to in order to stop them loading at startup.[this may require going into regedit, which is like poking around in your skull with a screwdriver, if you don't know what you are doing.]So, if you DON'T know, DON'T DO IT WITHOUT HELP!ANY CHANGES MADE IN REGEDIT ARE INSTANTLY SAVED, YOU MUST NOT MAKE A MISTAKE IN THERE.Have I scared you?Good.I don't want you going in there unsupervised, unless you KNOW what you are doing. So, assuming you DO know...in hkeylocalmachine and hkcurrentuser, there are run folders that launch items at startup.the path to both is: software/microsoft/windows/current version/runwhen you are done, PUT MSCONFIG BACK INTO NORMAL STARTUP!Wanna know WHY?Because if you DON'T, and you call tech support for another problem in the future, THE FIRST THING THEY WILL DO IS PUT YOU IN NORMAL STARTUP!And then, YOU HAVE BOTH PROBLEMS!Get it?Got it?GoodThen, go get your hardware problem fixed.
