Have you tried looking in the Event Viewer to see where the problem lies? In Classic View, go to Control panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer and choose Application. How to get info from here is a bit tricky but see if there's a red circle with a white x whose time corresponds with the time of the 'freeze. If there is, get all the info and the Event ID and post it here and I'll try to help.
