My computer keeps on freezing even though I've reinstalled XP a number of times.
I have a brand new computer and it started freezing after playing Bad Company 2. The computer started freezing for no reasonand I reinstalled Windows XP for a number of times and yet it still freezes for no reason!Whats happening?Am I'm being hacked or is there a virus/bug that is permanently stuck on my computer? Also I use AVG and it kept saying no threats detected.1 person needs an answerI do too

If it freezes while performing video intensive operations (like games), I would look at video drivers, then audio drivers.XP includes a feature to manually force a memory dump on systems that hang or stop responding. If you can manually generate a crash dump file from a system that is hung, it will have the clues you need to figure out what is going on (no guessing or trying things). There is always a reason.AVG doesn't know everything (no AV software seems to know everything), so just because AVG didn't detect any threats doesn't mean you don't have some infection. It just means that no threats were detected by AVG.Let's do the easy stuff first. If you reinstalled XP and did not update your video drivers afterwards, you would want to do that from the brand new computer manufacturers WWW site or from the video system manufacturers WWW site. Please provide additional information about your system:What is your system make and model? What is your XP Version and Service Pack?Does the afflicted system have a working CD/DVD drive?Do you have a genuine bootable XP installation CD (this is not the same as any Recovery CDs that came with your system)?Click Start, Run and in the box enter:msinfo32Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. For video driver information, expand the Components, click Display, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. For audio driver information, expand the Components, click Sound Device, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. There will be some personal information (like System Name and User Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just delete it from the pasted information. This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork.Do, or do not. There is no try.I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I am saving up for a pony!

That looks pretty good.I could not determine some things or they were unasnswere. What is your system make and model... is your system a laptop or a desktop and describe the keyboard interface (built in, wired, wireless...).Are you able to make your system hang anytime you want - as in on demand. If you can make it hang anytime you want, if we make an adjustment and you repeat the hanging behavior and it does not hang anymore, you will know you found and fixed it.I would do this next: I would navigate to the NVIDIA website and let their online scanner take a look at your video components (NVIDIA) and see what it suggests for drivers and consider their analysis if they suggest a new driver. It is recommended to run the NVIDIA scan with Internet Explorer. Here is the address to the NVIDIA page:http://www.nvidia.com/Download/PreScan.aspx?lang=en-usRead the directions, then click the GRAPHICS DRIVERS button to start the scan.If you installed your AVG out of the box with all options, you will most likely have performance problems (I don't know about hanging). I would uninstall AVG completely, reboot and then reinstall it as follows:When installing, select the CUSTOM install option and do NOT install (uncheck):LinkscannerSearch-ShieldActive Surf-Shield, Security toolbar or any of the email scanning componentsYou can read about these AVG components first to see if you think you really need them in your environment or not.For example, here is why you do not need to install the email scanning components:http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htmPlease perform these addition malware scans: Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/They can be uninstalled later if desired.Do, or do not.
