My computer does not recognize me as the owner/administrator ever since it crashed and I ran a recovery disk.  Should I run a new clean install?  If so, how do I accomplish that?  When I insert the recovery disk it does not run but instead shows contents.  I am not very tech savvy so please take that into account when you try to answer.

According to your description, I suppose that your account is corrupted. Thus, please try the 2 steps to repair it:

Step 1:

Enable the Built-in Elevated "Administrator" Account from WinRE

Step 2:

Fix a Corrupt User Profile in Windows
