My Windows 8 OEM(with bios preinstalled key) is not accepting my upgrading to windows 8 pro

Hello Ever'y body,

I have purchased windows 8 Full licences to upgrade my HP PC shipped with pre-installed windows 8 key. But when trying to add new features, it says that activation key is not working and i should try another key.

Have somebody ever met this issue and how he got through this, I am in trouble

Thanks to all in advance,

Duncan

Hi Duncan,

First, what version of Windows 8 are you currently running. Are you just running Windows 8 Standard, or have you already upgrade to Windows 8.1 and are now trying to upgrade Windows 8.1 to include the Pro Pack features?

If you are trying to do the latter, you will not be able to use a Windows 8 product key for Windows 8.1.

The more information you can provide about your current setup, the better we will be able to assist you.

Thanks!

Thank you Jessica,

I am running windows 8 standard edition(I don't really know if i should have said FAMILY EDITION, but that edition that is not Professional, nor Enterprise) shipped by HP, with product key written in the BIOS. I wanted to add features that could enable adding my PCs to a domain controller.

I haven't upgraded to 8.1. I just want to turn my current windows 8 settings to windows 8 PROFESSIONAL, to have more features, just like that

Hope this will be helpful

Thanks in advance!

Duncan

Thank You Lewis very much!

But we have already tried that, but we got this message, when we are asked to set the product key :''

This Key didn't work. Please check it and try again, or try a different key

Does it make sens to you?

More infos:

1) We have verified the activation key by trying to use them on a cleanly installed Windows 8 pro, and it worked

2)Machine have been bought in France, when the activationkey of windows 8 pro, have been purchased in Ivory Coast(ABIDJAN), West Africa

Hope this will help you to figure out what my problem is?

Thank you all, and special thanks to Jessica & Lewis

Did you purchase retail or OEM Windows 8 Pro licenses?  Only a retail Windows 8 Pro license can be used to upgrade from Windows 8.

Hi Carey,

This is how it's labelled on my quotation

Ref No# : FQC-05959

Design.  : Microsoft Windows Pro 8 64 bits

Then I have few question

1) How can I be sure whether it is Retail or OEM?

2) What should I do In case The Reseller gave the OEM?

PS: What types of pro licence Key do Micorsoft provide to its customers?

Thank A lot Carrey! and to Ev'rybody!

Hi

FQC-05959  seems to be an OEM license from my searches.

I purchased my Windows 8 Pro Pack from the Microsoft store and you get only a Key - no software.

I suspect that you have a license and media

You will have to run the new media and do an in-place upgrade.

Also note this link from HP if there any issues.

Manufacturer Part Number: FQC-05959 = OEM Windows 8 Pro

The only authorized source for Windows 8 Pro (retail) product keys is the Microsoft Store.  Example: Windows 8.1 Pro Pack

Please note that you would have to upgrade your current Windows 8 installation to Windows 8.1 before upgrading to Windows 8.1 Pro.
