I am sorry, but "My Private Folder" was not and is not a part of Windows Vista. As far as I know, it did not include a way to recover lost data.

Please note from the download page "The following hardware and software are required to run Microsoft Private Folder: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Professional Edition and Media Center Edition with SP2". While Vista is not on the list, if you look at http://www.msblog.org/?p=886you will find lots of Vista information on My Private Folder.

Salut Amit I have the same problem. I cannot open most Word-Files that I have put in that folder, amongst it my 200-pages-diary. IF YOU HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION PLEASE TELL ME HOW, otherwise please confirm that you have received this question! This diary is probably the most important thing I own. :-( Greetings from sunny Zurich andThank you in advance!Matthias

I have been reading countless threads since this morning, and i still couldn't find any solution to the problem with "damaged" documents (gibberish word docs, cannot be opened pdf files, and whatnot) requiring file conversion inside the private folder. Luckily, I have not experienced (yet and hope never) losing all my valuable information inside the private folder as what the others in this thread are talking about due to vista incompatibility or reinstallation. Sorry guys. By the way, I tried copying some word files in other folders but to no avail. The other word docs in my other folders are working perfectly well. Can anyone please, please help?Appreciate it a lot.Cris

If you loct or forgot your password for MY Private Folder just reboot your system in SAFE MODE, then when you log in go to C:\Documents and Settings\>>YOUR USERNAME<<\My Private Folder and you should open it without any problems. It opens without a password in safe mode ! GOOD LUCK
