My HP pavilion desktop 6653w series is chain blue screening and now won't start, what's wrong?
I run a HP Pavilion desktop 6653w and last week my computer started chain blue screening and shutting down. I literally left the room on day, came back, and it was off and when turned back on it chain blue screened. The computer managed to stay on long enough to run a virus scan in safemode, it was clean. I system restored to about two weeks ago, nothing. I even used the HP recovery discs and set it back to factory settings. The computer won't turn on at all now; rather it will turn on, but the monitor remains unresponsive. The computer makes the normal bootup sounds, then clicks a couple of times then makes no noise at all. It remains on because the light is still on and the CD/DVD tray responds...but nothing else does. I'm sorry if this was too vague, I'll get whatever information I need to provide to help solve this problem.

Hardware failure - either the RAM, power supply or mainboard. From your description of the symptoms and events leading up to the failure I suspect the power supply. Contact HP support.

Are you able to boot from a CD or DVD, such as a Windows installation disk? Are you able to get into BIOS? If so, does your hard drive show up there? As Bob said, it does sound like a hardware problem. The "clicks a couple of times" makes me think it may be the hard drive. Hopefully you have a valid disk image or backup you can restore from if that's the case. SC Tom -There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.

A bugcheck (BSOD) is a mechanism to protect your PC from damage. To see the cause I have to take a look at the dumps with the Debugging Tools for Windows. Please start into safe mode, run the Windows Explorer and go to the folder C:\Windows\Minidump. Next, copy the dmp files to your desktop, zip all dmp into 1 zip file and upload the zip file to your public Skydrive [1] folder and post a link here.
