when I delete files My Computer does not add newly freed up space to the amount of free space.I have run check disk/R, a registry cleaner, defrag and optimize, CC cleaner, and a host of small utilities recommended by people on tech forums.graphical programs like Treesize show the folder shrinking by the 75 GB and right clicking the folder name, Properties shows the appropriate size for the files remaining in the folder.I have restored the actual files from backup copies and watched the deletion process. According to Windows Explorer the files are not in the former folder. They were deleted rather than recycled but I emptied the recycle bin anyway.no new folder with 75 GB and a weird name appeared. 1 person needs an answerI do too

Any registry cleaner and any optimiser should be dumped. They help little and have the potential to create unresolvable problems leaving a user no option but to reinstall the operating system! Select Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked. How large is the drive and how much free disk space?I would be interested in seeing a Disk Defragmenter report. Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents Folder. Open the file, and place the cursor anywhere in the file, select Edit, Select All to highlight all text and copy and paste into the body of your message.
