MyMusic, MyPictures and MyVideos all have a 'lock' on them -- my access is being denied
My computer is a Toshiba Satellite model that I purchased new in January 2010, with Windows 7 Home premium already installed. I installed Norton 360 immediately, which is still active. I opened Documents for the very first time, yesterday (July 25, 2010), and saw a padlock icon next to the MyMusic, MyPictures and MyVideos. When clicking on any of these, a window popped up with the message that access was denied. I called Toshiba. I was asked if there is any other user of my computer. I am the only user. The Toshiba representative eventually indicated that he could not resolve my problem and recommended that I contact Microsoft.

To help us help you, please clarify the following: 1. Are you talking about the Libraries calles Music, Pictures and Videos found in the Windows 7 system folder named Libraries? If not, please tell us what you are talking about. 2. Are you using an account with administrative priveleges when you attempt to access the libraries? If not, your computer should have a default administrative account that you can use. If you don't know how to access it, Toshiba tech support should be able to tell you how. 3. You can also try disabling Norton to see if that has any effect (admittedly a shot in the dark).

Sounds like you may have lost permissions on those folders somehow. If you have administrative powers on your laptop do the following: Right click on the target folder and select properties Select the Security Tab and Click Advanced Click on Change Permissions Find your username on the list, if it is not listed, click add and type in your username and click ok With your name selected, click Edit In the permissions area check Allow next to Full Control Click OK Check Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object Click Ok enough times to close the windows

The permission of the folders with locks are limited. You will find that only the folder owner, SYSTEM or Administrators can access this kind of folders. Also, try the following suggestions and see if the issue can be resolved: 1. Right click the folder with the Padlock icon and click Properties. 2. Click Security tab and click "Edit…" button. 3. In the popped up box, please click "Add…" button and type the name "Authenticated Users", and then click OK. 4. Click OK and exit. If the issue persists, you can take ownership of the folder by changing its permission. For more suggestions, refer to this thread: How do I remove padlock icon from all my files Hope this helps.
