Multiple networks
When I boot into Win7 RC1, 2 out of 3 times, I have no internet access. When this happens, the Networking and Sharing centre shows the connection an "Multiple Networks" on the occasions when I do have internet access, Ihave only one network connection showing. I do not have this problem with Vista on the same computer. Is there a solution. Thanks

Hi Musket,When you receive the "Multiple Networks", can you open up command prompt, and type the following:ipconfig /all Now, copy and paste everything shown there to a new reply here. Also I suspect that it could be caused by your wireless - it could be auto connecting to a 'dead' network. So pleaes ensure that your wireless network is disabled/not connected if you are not using it. Also do you have Virtual PC or VMware installed? If yes, these programs will create a new network - Pleaes open up Network and Sharing Center and disable these extra networks.Hope this helps.Jabez Gan [MVP] - http://www.msblog.org Contributing Author for: (Sybex) MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure Configuration Study Guide: Exam 70-643

Abu, my first thought (based on my read of your ipconfig output) is that your LAN is misconfigured (the IP address isn't 'legal' per RFC1918.)However, before we go down that road, could you also post the ipconfig /all output of a working computer there?-Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi.. me too having this problem. My diagnosis so far : This problem occurs only when the system is started. Reason : most probably because of a slow system (check out ur 'System rating' by going to Performance Information and Tools) Explanation : I have tried with 2 systems having Win 7. A lapi(fast system, recently bought, v good config) n a desktop(slow system, a 4 yr old amd-64bit 3200+ processor, 1.5 gb ram). Connection to n/w is via WLAN and LAN respectively. I've tried: resetting the IP configs to default 192.168.0.1 settings. ip address setting to static address / dynamic address. any n all settings work with the laptop. nothing works for the low end PC. So i think there u go about the source of the problem..! Possible solutions : 1. Just disable the corresponding Local Area Connection Adapter n enable it back. It works for me. 2. Try Switch off the Windows Aero Theme and any setting that requires more resource, so that the OS is running in bare minimum. (of course then there would be no meaning of using Win7 at al :P ) -- i havnt tried this yet but lemme know if it works :) This is just what i found out 'logically'. Please do post if someone finds an actual 'pratical' solution to this.

Hi All, I've seen this problem multiple times, especially with Windows 7 64-bit versions and Enterprise edition. The source of the problem appears to be the Bonjour service that is installed in the background and set to "Automatic" when installing certain 3rd party applications. Apple applications like iTunes and Adobe applications like Acrobat Professional and Creative Suites have been known to cause this problem. I've also seen virtualization software like VMWare and VirtualBox cause similar issues with network adapters. The solution in most of the cases I've come across has been to stop and disable the Bonjour service. The Bonjour service also masquerades as a service with a name of the format "##Id_String1.6844F930_blahblahblah". Here's how to disable this service in Windows 7: Right-Click on Computer > Select 'Manage' Expand the 'Services and Applications' section in the bottom of the Left-Nav dialog and Select 'Services' Sort the Services list by name and look for either "Bonjour" or the "##Id_String..." name mentioned above Right-Click on the service and select 'Properties' Click the 'Stop' button to stop the service Select 'Disabled' from the 'Startup type' drop down list Click 'Apply' and then 'OK' Reboot your machine and see if the "Multiple Networks" issue is resolved. If so, you should have internet connectivity again. Hope this helps. cheers, Aaron

Thanks BlueOuisou. Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. :) Were you simply acknowledging my post or making a comment? I have since merged my multiple networks, however the wireless network connection identified (& is operational) has a different SSID than te LAN connection. It's been so long since I've had a fully functiional LAN/wireless connection, I simply can't remember that if this is normal or not. One very important item I have noted is that if I test my LAN connection speed w/o wireless engaged, I'm getting d/l speeds of ~20 Mbps whereas with wireless engaged, the speed will sometimes dropoff from ~8 Mbps - 15 Mbps.
