Hi long tall sal, ·What is the service pack installed on the computer?·Do you remember any recent changes made prior to the issue?·Which is the security software installed? Mshta.exe component provides the Microsoft HTML Application Host, which allows execution of .HTA (HTML Application) files. However, as you find multiple instances of this process running on your computer, follow the below steps and check the results: Method 1:Run online virus scan and check if any malware or virus activity found on the computer. You may run online virus scan from the below link: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm Method 2:Run system file checker on the computer. Link you may refer: Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747 Note that: if it prompts for the service pack CD and you do not have the same, follow the steps from the link: You are prompted to insert a Windows XP SP2 CD when you try to run the System File Checker tool on a Windows XP SP2-based computer:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900910 (Holds good for Service pack 3) Regards:Samhrutha G S - Microsoft Support.Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.
