Multiple failures with Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit Service Pack 1 (KB976932) installation
I've read several threads regarding W7 SP1 installation failures. Unfortunately, I am not an IT person, just a average person with an annoying pc problem. Since March of 2011, I've attempted to install SP1 (KB976932) several times with the same result: failure! The only difference, the multiple error codes. The following are steps completed so far; System Update Readiness Tool, Windows Update troubleshooter, Hotfix for Windows (KB947821), and disabled Norton to reinstall SP1. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit on a Dell Inspiron 1525. sgarreguin

Have you tried to run the standalone installation? (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5842) To further troubleshoot: Restart Windows Update service (Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, right click Windows Update and restart) Re-run Windows Update. Paste the contents of c:\windows\windowsupdate.log from the time that you restarted the update service to the most recent entry. A+, Net+, Sec+, MCP, MCTS, VCP4

I have not. Under the "Overview" heading there is a paragraph that states, "Do not click download if you are updating just one computer" (Microsoft, 2011). Since I only have a laptop, I felt I should not do so. Unless you think otherwise. I also did a sfc/scannow, results: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations" Any suggestions?sgarreguin

I believe that the warning is because the manual install is not as automated. In addition to that, the file unfortunately contains SP1 for all architectures, so it is a bit more to download. I may be blind, but I haven't found any architecture specific downloads. Regardless, if you download it, you will get the file you need. The file that you want is windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe. You will either have to burn the ISO to a disc, or use a utility such as Virtual CloneDrive (http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html).A+, Net+, Sec+, MCP, MCTS, VCP4

Try also the following: Run chkdsk /r /f and sfc /scannow Reset Windows Update components If none helped, I think it will be better to perform a repair install of your OS. Ok, I've downloaded the file windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe, ran sfc/scannow, chkdsk/r, restared Windows Update components (x2), and downloaded SP1. It still fails. I've attached the link with the contents of c:\windows\windowsupdate.log that inclueds all the steps I've mentioned above. https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=b5159728d94bbd2e&resid=B5159728D94BBD2E!123 Any suggestions?sgarreguin
