Multiple SVCHost processes slowing down the machine
I have multiple SVCHost processes running at any given time and this has slowed down the machine drastically. AVG is unable to detect any viruses. These are the specs -windows 7 Home BasicPentium 4 CPU 2.66 GHzRAM 2 GB32 bit OSThis is also causing overheating of the cabinet and sometimes the machine just shuts down saying a thermal event has occurred. The back of the cabinet is burning hot after 10-15 minutes. Please suggest what I should do. Thanks,Harish1 person needs an answerI do too

If you have Windows 7, you are in the wrong forum. This is an XP forum.I can still provide general information from some of your descriptions. If your unspecified system make and model in overheating, perhaps you need to do some maintenance. If you need more details, tell us your system make and model and we can zero in on things specific to your system. If it is a desktop and the back gets burning hot and getting thermal event shudowns, you may have a ventilation problem or maybe the power supply is overheating. Without more information, you can only expect guesses. What is your system make and model? Are you a gamer? Here is an article about system maintenance to keep your system from overheating:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial118.htmlYou do not want your system to look like this:http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/11/13/ventblockers/print.htmlIf you read the following article, you will be smarter than the average bear about what goes on with svchost.exe and understand why it is normal to see several svchost processes running in Task Manager:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial129.htmlSometime, malicious software will "hide" itelf under one of your svchost processes and hope that you won't notice it running or make you think you have some really major problem. It is just trying to trick you into thinking that you need to implement unnecessary actions such as a System Repair, System Restore or heaven forbid - a reinstall of your XP.Let me tell you some things I have observed about AVG...In terms of malicious software detection and removal AVG is among the weakest of the weak.If you install AVG out of the box (or out of the download) with all the options, you are likely to suffer a performance penalty from the many AVG process that get installed that you may not need. More is not always better. Some folks adore AVG though. If you are compelled to use AVG, I recommend this:Uninstall AVG completely, reboot and reinstall AVG.When you install AVG, do not let it install "everything" with the default components (unless you want a performance problem to troubleshoot later). When installing, select the CUSTOM install option and do NOT install (uncheck):LinkscannerSearch-ShieldActive Surf-Shield, Security toolbar or any of the email scanning componentsYou can read about these AVG components first to see if you think you really need them in your environment or not.For example, here is why you do not need to install the email scanning components:http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htmJust because AVG did not find anything does not mean your computer is not afflicted with malware. No single scanning program seems to know about everything and AVG will miss many kinds of infections other programs will detect. You can certainly use AVG, but expand your malicious software scanning horizons to include these:Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/They can be uninstalled later if desired. When you get this part done, if you still have performance problems, now you can troubleshoot them a little easier.I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I am saving up for a pony!

Please download/install/run Process Explorer: http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/ProcessExplorer.zipThen, you can see that each svchost.exe is hosting different services in a separate memory process. This is to prevent computer crashes when one component crashes. With Process Explorer, you can determine if a spyware is running alongwith or in its own memory process hosted by svchost.exeFinally, there is a well known virus masquerading as a genuine microsoft's svchost.exeIf I have helped you, please VOTE for me.

You got a serious hardware problem. Make sure your computer's CPU fan is running.*** YOU SHOULD NOT RUN THE COMPUTER UNTIL YOU FIX THE OVER HEATING ISSUE -- FIRST.Also learn how to post. Sorry for being straightforward. You lucky..I caught the heating issue. Your title\heading has misled three other people to solve svchost issue where CPU overheating is the issue (beside svchost).
